Ooh, that's a great prompt! Have you done a Sci-Fi before?
I got Romantic Comedy/Rumor/Captain. Lots of possible avenues to go down with that. Even though I love this genre, I'm a lot more anxious than last time!

Hey, same group! Agreed, these prompts don't seem too difficult to integrate into the story which makes everything way more open-ended and difficult, at least for me. Good luck and looking forward to seeing what you come up with!

Group 2
Drama A personal best A warden Question: in your experiences, do you think it helps or hurts to stick to the character/subject strictly, or does it benefit you to go out on a limb? I have an idea for a “warden” but it’s not what you’d typically think of as a warden. I have another idea that includes a more traditional “prison warden” character but I think my first idea is a better story. I haven’t done this contest in a few years, but my last 2nd round entry employed a pretty flexible definition of the prompt “zookeeper” and wasn’t received well by judges. Just curious what other people’s experiences are as the rules are a little vague.

If in doubt, I'd go for the safer option and just try to improve on the plot if you don't think the story is as good as your first idea.
Going out on a limb COULD be awesome but it would be so gutting to be disqualified. Without knowing your ideas, though, it's hard to say! |

"Warden" can mean many things. There are prison wardens, game wardens, college wardens, fire wardens, etc. As long as it's impactful and makes sense, you should be fine. I wouldn't go too crazy, but you have some range to work with. In the last round, my character was a "garbageman" but I made him a janitor and got 1st place in the heat. There's flexibility as long as it adheres. In this round, mine is more specific: "disc jockey." If they would've just put "jockey," I could've put him on a horse or spinning CDs and either would work.

To get particular, I’m talking about a “street warden” (basically a beat cop who doesn’t have the authority to arrest anyone and just keeps an eye out for the community) which is an established thing in the UK, but not so much anywhere else from my very limited research. I’m leaving space to explain that as a concept in the script but wondering if it’s too much of a stretch. “Street Warden” has its own Wikipedia page so I figured I could go with it lol.
