I know I won’t win (no really), but I’m so excited for the 10th! I’m rooting for lots of folks on here to place!  Of what I read (and I haven’t gotten to them all) I loved especially “The Well-Trained Thing in Constance’s Dress” and ”Rasp. Thunk. Swish.” And I love them very differently!

So I wondered: what stories (other than your own) were your favorites from this round? I think it’s worth knowing, whatever the judges think, who reached whom, writer to reader.

OMG, thank you for the vote of confidence on The Well-trained Thing in Constance's Dress!!

I need to go back through and look at what I read... it has honestly been so long and I've had at least three different challenges since then, I've kind of forgotten everything I've read. (I do remember everything was QUITE good this time!)

A Good Death and True Dead. Both will place highly imo. Daisy Chain also a strong contender.

Thank you Holdo. I just realised I never returned your review so I nipped over to have a quick read of yours and I loved it. Really smoothly written and with a great (killer Wink) twist. Tight work, nicely done.

For me, I loved the old myth feel of Blanca The Beautiful and I thought Black Market was just downright great storytelling.

Good luck to everyone! Both for the results and for hanging onto our sanity while we wait for them.

I agree. I think those will place near the top. I also am pulling for Constance's Dress. I didn't get to read all of the stories (darn) but I don't envy the judges. It will be difficult to rank these stories because so many are excellent.

@lgeverdell- Thank you for the mention of Black Market! I was not unhappy with it when I hit submit, but after reading all the stories here in the forum, I realize I'm completely outclassed again. So many great stories here! I have no illusions about placing, but I'm still excited to see the final results.

I have not read them all, and the ones I read were strong for different reasons, so it's really hard to choose.

One that stands out to me is "The Man with the Golden Shovel" -- has a creepy dark fairy tale vibe, and is really well executed. I also really like (for totally different reasons) "Throughway."

I loved Golden Shovel, too! There is really no way for me to choose the winners. I review the titles and think "Oh, that. And that one. And that one, too! They all should win."

Surely this is like being asked which is your favourite child (or dog, in my case) - we all have a favourite in our hearts but it it would be heartless to say it out loud! :-D

Then there are those people, invisible muggers, the ones who don't share here - I'd disqualify them to start off with! :-D

Oh goodness, I hope nobody feels anything like that! I think, having got this far, we all have so, so much of which to be proud. Everyone’s stories were great! I think it does us all good, too, to see how different stories stood out for different folks — reminds us how subjective art is, and that one (or three) perspectives on a piece do not definitively define its worth.

But yes, less seriously, I hear you! I feel like everyone deserves a high-five for their work.
