It srikes me as I comment on the challenge 3 stories, most of the reviewers are those still in the competition.  It would be genuinely nice to read feedback from those who are no  longer swayed by being a participant.

When I posted a month or so back about not wishing to post my stories, one or two people took issue saying that it helped them as writers to grow by reading and commenting on other's work.  I thought that was a fair point - but disappointingly I can't see those same writers are now commenting since going out.

I know if I go out this round I will still look forward to reading and commenting on the finalists stories.  So come on, it's easy to talk about supporting fellow writers but the proof is in the doing.

Maybe they were banished and can't get into that forum anymore.

I can't speak for the others who usually participate and have not been around, but as for me, please accept my apologies.

I've been reading a fair few of the stories and will be leaving feedback soon. They've only been up a few days, gives us a chance!

Soot - if you'd like to send me you story, I'll happily read it. I think there is always something to be gained from sharing, no matter what the circumstances. At the same time, I can really understand if it's not something you want to share at this time, and no-one will twist your arm. Much love to you and your family, and no more said about it.

I just posted mine LG - thanks

I just couldn't get it up - go ahead and laugh.  I'd been trying for days.  I needed story Viagra I guess.

So go ahead and read if google docs will cooperate.  I'm going to go lay down and pull the covers over my head before my family calls again.

Don't feel as if you have to say nice things.  The story is too cute to be a horror story.  I know that.

I think everyone should be able to do what they want, and I'm not sure one comment means someone should feel locked into having to do any specific thing or another (I'm not even sure what comments you are referring to...but I know you don't link to posts, so I suppose I'll just have to trust this vague feeling you have.)

I was one of the people who said I get a lot out of reviewing.  And here I am.  And nope, I probably wouldn't be reviewing if I weren't in the competition any more (though I have done so before).  Maybe it's all moot, anyway, because I would give the exact same reviews if I were in the competition or out (and I can't say I've ever seen anyone vary from that over two years-worth of competitions).

I consider this scenario a firm "live and let live."

I know the stories have only been up 4 or 5 days now - but there's been plenty of activity on them and I just guess that the former participants were kind of conspicuous by their absence "en masse" at this stage.  Apologies certainly aren't due, it was more an observation than anything else.  Deepest sympathy to you and your family Soot

Okay, vague feelings are no good here. We need empirical data! While there were plenty of people posting in the early rounds, the number of people actively reviewing was smaller. Some people (hats off to you, Joe) reviewed all or many of the stories. Others (like me) reviewed all those that reviewed mine, and reviewed as many others as I could find the time for. Other people posted but didn't review much for one reason or another (many people have said in the past that while they really appreciate feedback, they feel unqualified / unable to give it back).

Which is all a long winded way of saying that I suspects the regulars are mostly still here, because they are mostly still in the competition, and that while it seems like numbers have dropped off, the core numbers weren't that large to begin with, but it is more obvious now that the number of stories is smaller.

But again, this is hunch and not hard facts.

One way of getting somewhat "harder" facts is to lurk in the main forum area (where all the top level forums are listed.  That shows active users dynamically.  It can be sort of interesting to see who is logged in, fairly time-intensive, though.

lg, I'm still seriously thinking about making an animated avatar of someone pulling up their socks.

Silly me, I thought it was an area for "general discussion" - next time I'll ensure Gallop undertake a rigirous poll and analysis before making an observation. Wink
