I just started here this year, so it's not a very impressive list like some above.

2017 SSC R1 Crime Caper (HM)

2017 FFC R1 Mystery (7pts)
               R2 Comedy
SSC R1 G28 Fairy Tale/Repetition/Gunslinger Hurt No More (or, The Princess and the Gunslinger)

This year I got:

FFC: fairy tale and horror (what a jump!).

SSC: fairy tale, sci fi, and open.

This year my fairy tales have done the best, which sucks a bit because I hate writing them. The story which I was most proud of and worked the hardest on didn't place. Totally nearly cried.

I started last year with:

FFC 2016: political satire (15) and horror (3) - it wasn't enough to advance :(
SSC 2016: fairy tale and mystery
FFC 2017: ghost story (0) and crime caper

So have had a pretty even spread of genres, but mystery and crime caper have been the toughest for me. Guess I'll never be a criminal mastermind or consulting detective!

Like an earlier post this is my first year.

FFC #1 Action
FFC #2 SciFi

They could have been the same, but I didn't make the SciFi very action filled so it was different.

Wow that's almost.... spooky. ;-)

Funny story. A friend of mine got Horror in Rd 2 of SSC and wrote an homage to my bad prompt luck -  a story about a commission writer who kept getting a never ending string of Ghost Story commissions (and they started coming true.)

That is brilliant!!!

FFC 2016: Action Adventure / Horror  / Fantasy

SSC 2017: Comedy

Screenplay 2017: Thriller  / SciFi  / Open (I invented my own genre on that one, but I think it was a Dark Comedy)

FFC 2017: Political Satire / SciFi

Interestingly, the piece that fared best was the one I, personally, liked the least.

And... in my soul searching over Round 1 results this time around, I can say with confidence that, so far, the stories that adhered most to the assigned genre and used the object in an "interesting" way (not just a simple throw away/mention, but really used it) did best.

I had drama for the first round and crime caper for the second. I would have preferred sci-fi or historical fiction, but I had fun. I doubt I will make it to round three- 0 points for the first one and I started off well with the second but I think my ending was lacking. I will play again however, and am looking forward to the upcoming short story competition.

Screenplay 2017: Crime caper / Drama

FFC 2017: Spy / Romance

I'm glad to have had a different genre each time so far, although I've never had one that I want most (horror / ghost story / thriller / comedy). But writing a romance was an unexpected pleasure, so I love that you are forced outside your comfort zone.
