I had never written a screenplay before NYCM…their site has a nice page of basics, including font and margins rules.

And Suave is right, use Google if you need any help with doing a flashback, montage, and other formats.

I wrote my first screenplay in the screenwriting challenge back in 2020. It was intense but fun. Reading other scripts taught me a lot. I 'm looking forward to giving it another go this weekend. See you all soon!

I have never written a screenplay before - didn't even know how to format one before doing some frantic Googling this week.   

I'm very excited for this - I've just done the 100 words NYCM and waiting for the results, so this will be a great distraction.  I love that everybody gets to write two screenplays.

Thanks all! Formatting is probably my biggest worry at the moment but it just means I'll be extra attentive to getting it right. Thanks for the advice... getting all excited now!

I highly recommend you get some free screenwriting software that’ll handle the basic formatting stuff for you. ArcStudio has a free version, I’ve also heard of Celtx, and there are others (I just don’t know them off the top of my head).

When I was starting out I found many helpful articles about the basics and formatting on ScreenCraft’s blog: https://screencraft.org/screenwriting/

This will be my 3rd or 4th go at it. Didn't do it last year, but in 2020 my first round (Drama, Bed & Breakfast, Cactus) Milton placed 3rd in the round and was shot earlier this year (with a few changes after the 5 page limit was lifted). 

I'm hoping for Ghost story, horror, thriller, or comedy this year. Dreading getting something like historical fiction (even though I have a degree in History) or satire or caper. Ugh, I would hate that, I think. 

I feel like the 5 page limit is the hardest part. It's hard to crank out a viable full on story in 5 pages without feeling like things are missing...

I just joined yesterday! This is my very first NCYM challenge, and will also be my first time completing a screenplay, because I AM crazy! LOL

Hi everyone! Been a long time since I've posted in a forum... Hello. :)

And first-timer to the Screenplay challenge. Very excited. I'm taking it as my introductory practice to longer-form screenwriting, as I've had a script idea percolating for a bit over a year now.
