Absolutely! There is suspense built into a thriller - I don't think suspense is a genre in itself but a component of other genres (horror, monster movie, drama, even comedy sometimes... waiting for that anvil to fall is torture)

I'd be careful about that. Nobody who tried blending or bending genres last year did very well.

Ok...i can handle that...because i think for a thriller to be pulled off you need suspense to get the audience guessing and glued to the screen.  And thats what i thought before we started chatting and i was worried i was missing the whole point of a thriller.

This makes me feel better because what i have planned has thrilling points in it and a suspensfull/thriller storyline(well at least i think it does)  i guess ill find out  LOL

So do people pass aroundn their scripts once this gets going or do we all just wait till the end?

I'll share my 1st round submission once the deadline has passed, but not before that. Of course, I still need to write it so I'm not sure why I'm hanging out here.

I do look forward to seeing what you have...i'm very curious to see the other competitors in this genre and topic...to see how different our minds work...i guess.

Although suspense is a component of other genres, to say it isn't a genre in and of itself is not completely accurate, but I think what you're proposing, richke, seems to be in the thriller genre - not to mention there's about 10 different subgenres within the thriller genre so chances are your story will fit within the parameters of one of them.

good luck

Yes, I see that there are genres of suspense in the competition, but I think that it runs pretty close with thriller and that the two are 'almost' interchangeable. It may just not have some of the same components as a flat out "thriller" would have - it's such a subjective thing sometime. I'm a genre nazi this year because I learned a valuable lesson last year when my drama wandered into the sci-fi arena and I pretty much tanked (despite the fact that I thought it was a strong script ... for a sci fi) LOL.

I just read wenonah's thriller and I've got to tell you, her heat mates are in trouble.

Well, that's downright intimidating.  There are far too many good writers in this competition.

Im in that heat!  My idea is alot cooler in my head than it is on paper.  But this is the first time Ive done something like this so it's definitely a fun, learning experience.

After reading the thread I might be towing the line of the thriller genre as well, we'll see ;)
