If it helps, in FF round 3, the location was "a stock market" -- which some people took to mean livestock and others took to mean financial market. People wrote stories in both setting without being disqualified. I think you allowed leeway in interpretation as long as intent can be understood.

I always double check the challenge rules (obsessively?) and also read through some of the FAQs from the main page to reassure myself :D

I read through the whole thing hoping to find some heat mates, but no luck. I was hoping to find others who could share in my pain.

I had no idea what Shellacking meant and I'm not sure I actually included it my story... guess we'll see what the judges think.

I was having that issue with revival. I’ve decided to use it both ways in my story, as a religious event and as the rebirth of something.

That's a mighty tough set of prompts! All I can picture for "a shellacking" is, like, smearing mod-podge onto cocktail napkins to glue them onto rocks in summer camp as a kid. Not exactly the elements of a compelling story. I wish you luck!

I have the exact same issue! I love the slow build. I just finalized my final final FINAL draft tonight and I'm a little worried it starts too much like suspense. But, it's definitely thrilling throughout, so I'm going to hope the judges are flexible and grade on a curve :P

Shellacking has the literal definition of putting a coat of shellac (varnish) on something, but also it's used figuratively to describe a one-sided result in a contest. so you can say "I shellacked the deck chairs yesterday" or "The Eagles shellacked The Giants last Sunday by a score of 38-7." I see the figurative sense most often in sports, but it works for any contest, i.e. "Candidate X shellacked Candidate Y in the elections last week."
