Do any of you cross over between screen writing and short story writing?  I've entered the short story competition twice and am considering the screen writing competition, but am unsure about format and other requirements since I haven't really written a screen play before.

I write a lot of different things in many formats. I just competed in the short story contest and have already signed up for the screenwriter's challenge.

You can find the format in the rules. Basically, you single space lines of dialog and action, but you double space between a character's name and the dialog. You also capitalize character's names. For example:

LAUREN walks into the kitchen.

JASON

Hey.

LAUREN

Hello.

I hope that helps, I'd love to see you in the screenwriter's challenge! It's my first time, too, but I've done some screenwriting before.

Ive entered both as well. I wrote in the screenplay comp last year for the first time. The formatting is relatively easy to get mostly right, someone will always pick you up on some small details. I read lots of websites that detail Spec-script formats, and also just copied the formatting from scripts i had read from earlier year competitions on this site.

Hope to see you in there!
