I'm a little surprised nobody has started this topic yet. 3,233 words of notes, mostly copied off web pages. I've settled on the story and dialog has begun to float around in my head. In the process I've written off several potentially legitimate concerns. None of them are my problem. About Tuesday is when despair and 'really? How did you think this was interesting?' will start to happen. My current plan is to ignore that as well. Real writing starts tomorrow.

I have 46 words down, but they are good words that I will not have to change.
2454 more to go!

Zero words actually on paper but I've done some research and have been shifting things around in my head.

I started at 9am this morning. I had Suspense/Price War/Landowner. I have never written fiction before much less a short story. I had to research how to write suspense. When I started the first couple times the story came off more as a mystery. I scrapped four versions before I found a completely different idea and went for it. Two hours later I had myself a suspenseful short story about a landowner in a pricewar. I didn't even know the ending was going to happen like it did until the last 200 words. Bam! I finished my first draft at 2500 words on the dot. I cleaned it up a little and am currently at 2507. I have more work on it but I am pleasantly pleased with what I was able to come up with the prompts and am pretty confident that it is unlike any other story in the mix. Even if I don't make it to Round Two I must admit that I won in my own eyes by just pushing through that challenge and not giving up.

I have a very thorough outline completed. So thorough, in fact, that there's no way I'm going to squeeze it into 2500 words. Too bad I didn't enter a novel-writing competition...

2100 words down. No idea how to wrap things up satisfactorily in the final 400.
