You're not the only one! I sometimes end up writing the pre-quel to my stories I think, and have to cut a thousand words or more off the front.

I think I'm finally starting to get the hang of this though, as I only had to cut about 450 words this time. Embarrassed You can do it! Change those two-word place names to a one-word place. Throw in some contractions. Tidy up those verbs and adjectives - instead of "she was hearing a strange, high-pitched keening sound" try "she heard a high-pitched keening". Every word counts! 

Maybe one of your characters can be Southern so you can squeeze in some "y'all"s and some "I'd've"s. LOL

I definitely had to cut like at least 500 words from the first draft. 

This was by far the hardest of the rounds.
