A city transplant stakes out the henhouse to discover the identity of an egg thief. Will they both get more than they bargained for?

This is my fifth straight year doing this contest--and my third time getting Suspense for the first challenge. I've never not shared my story on the forum, but this one may not see the light of day. I just never managed to connect to the prompts, and I know the story suffered because of it. Ouch

That said, congrats to everyone for making it through the weekend and submitting a story. Great job! Clap

FINALLY a heat buddy! I was starting to feel extremely lonely out on the chicken farm.

Are we the only two so far? I really hated the chicken farm prompt. Like, REALLY hated it.

Aw, I hope you share. We're mostly friendly and can find gems in the substrate.

But--do what works for you!

I know, Stephen. I just feel like it's just SO mortifyingly bad this time. Not to mention the whole changing the ending with 40 minutes remaining thing. I'm not a firm "not gonna happen," (although I'm close), but I'm not obsessively checking my email for the confirmation like I have in the past. As much as I hated my R1 story in last SSC, I hate this story even more. Bleh. Dead

1. What Stephen said
2. The way we make things better is by letting the folks here tell us how
3. We often find that once we put it up there, others find a lot to like in it.  That can be very affirming and help you work through the hurdles more smoothly and with a bit more enthusiasm
4. I'm Nixie.  I just want *every group to have 3-5 stories posted so everyone has at *least 2 and preferably at least 3 other stories from their group to read.

So I am ALWAYS gonna encourage you to post - both for yourself and "because you'd hate to be that one with only your story and maybe one other posted" lol

5. What Stephen said. Do what's right for you.

Hey group mate!!

Your synopsis sounds great. Why is it that a restaurant never occurred to me?

Looking forward to the read!

Tongue

It is kinda crazy (er, scary?) that a bunch of regulars ended up in the same group.

I suspect that they put us in groups by the order we registered in. I registered early this year and am in group 6, which is the first time in a long time I have had a number that low.

I believe very strongly that I registered the first day and am in Group 95.

And there you go lol Must be really randomized then?

* Oddly, no one from "Queens, NY" signed up.

That's because Queens is an oddball amongst the boroughs. We're the only ones to use individual neighborhoods as part of our postal addresses (e.g. Astoria, Long Island City, Flushing).

Here is more than you ever wanted to know about this phenomenon:

Oh! Thank you for this! I've always wondered!
This is not the signature you are looking for.
