Just thought I'd start a thread where people to come introduce themselves.

Hello there. Name's Garrett. Pleased as hell to meet you.

Usually fancy myself a screenwriter, but I have the workings of a novel brewing and I figure this contest might be a good way to shock my synapses into thinking in fiction writing terms.

If this fails there's always adrenachrome. Whatever's right.

Hi, my name is Chris and I am a NYC Midnight Addict.

Even though I don't think I will be entering this contest, I still plan on haunting these forums like I always do. I look forward to reading the short stories.

Chris

Hello,
I'm Caroline from the UK and I WILL be entering the competition - just love writing, no matter what, although my heart's desire is to have one of my screenplays come to life in a film...
Best of luck everybody. It'll be fun!
Caroline

Super Dave here, I am working on a novel and thought I would take a break to make some money. Authors- Jack London, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, JRR Tolkein, JK Rowling, and Chuck Palahniuk. There are many more, but those sit on the top.

John. Writer in NJ. Done the screenplay competition here, written two feature-length screenplays - one good one that's far too expensive to shop as a spec and one steaming turd that I'm gonna take a stab at rewriting later this year.

Authors: Michael Chabon, GK Chesterton, Stephen King, Kinky Friedman, Poe, Kazuo Ishiguro when he steers clear of sci-fi, plus a couple dozen others I'm forgetting right now.

Hello gang,

I'm David, and I took part in the short screenplay competition last summer. I used to write short stories, then I drifted to screenplays. I also write comic strips for fun.

One of the above posters mentioned Vonnegut, Matheson, and Palhaniuk as favorite authors. Good call on all fronts. You may want to check out Will Christopher Baer as well as Max Barry, I found them through the Palhaniuk website.

I am a huge fan of the Short Stories of Raymond Carver. His work is really inspiring.

Does anyone else read Howard (Conan and Solomon Kane) or Steven Niles?
Niles has a beat up private detective that hunts monsters. I would never have thought a work could be so entertaining.

Can't believe I left off Neil Gaiman. I should be shot for that.

I can't say I've read any Gaiman. I hear it's good stuff though.
