I always focus heavily on the prompts - I need to do that to narrow my options and force my brain to come up with something! My first round theme was "nine lives" and I did a cat with nine lives, and this "match made in heaven" story is ... set in heaven. It was speed-written and isn't very original/inspired but I was happy enough with it. Curious to see where my fellow literal groupmates went with the heaven theme!
te how my synopsis is ABAB! I've never done that because it seems too hard; my actual story is ABCB.)
Hey groupmate! It never occurred to me to do heaven as the setting! clever! It sounds like a couple other writers did? I did the Hallmark classic town named Heaven, although I didn't lean into that joke at all. (I found 500 words tight.)

I also obsess about the prompts, although I had it in my head that the emotion was bitter, not self-pity until right when I was submitting. ugh. Had to do exciting last minute editing which is seldom a good thing.

WOW I almost did mine in heaven too!! But I was having a hard time not wasting words with world-building so I scrapped it. Mine is set in a grocery store called Heaven's Crate!

A Couple's Lazy Day

A day with just us two sounds like a dream.
But money is an interfering theme.

Looking forward to reading your interpretation of our prompts, groupm(eight)! And congrats on 3rd in your group in R1.

I think I now count five of us, myself included! Looks like an active group, for once (I was one of only two people in my group who posted in round one).  😀

Anyway, I figured heaven would be an obvious setting and though I assumed others would choose it too, I didn’t have time to linger on brainstorming and just got to writing. Actually, most of mine takes place on earth because why not complicate things with two settings?! Haha. I actually used heaven in both the obvious ways. 🤷‍♀️

Despite similarities, I’m sure all of our stories will still read very differently – the beauty of the contest.

Please post groupmates! I was kind of on the fence about putting mine up (because I didn’t get to return all my reads for round one). But I like to see what groupmates do, so I want to offer up the same.

I don't think I've seen any group 9?
Suspense/thriller - dirty work - courageous

Bert's Bar
Working to pay off debt, a cleaner uncovers a secret. Now he could be in both literal and metaphorical sh*t.

Group 1- Comedy- Social status- Neglected

Brittney’s Bravest Warrior

This neglected office plant won’t tolerate another word said against his cube buddy by those work bullies in sales. Enough is enough- this ZZ plant is out for revenge!

This round had lots of ups and downs for me, emphasis on downs, lol. It’s definitely not as strong as my round 1 piece, but I think I pulled it together alright by the time I submitted it.
