"Calculations" G31 Romantic Comedy
Worth
Swimming in a pool

-------

Hope you enjoy.

-------

His calculations were always perfect.

In the thirty seconds it took him to walk from the hotel reception to his sun lounger, Luke had clocked all dangers and threats. It was an unfortunate habit he'd developed at youth, borne out of neuroses and not an innate spy ability.

He knew that the average age of the pool was around 35, with two elderly couples significantly upping the mean. He knew that 5 people were less athletically-inclined than him. The t-shirt-wearing swimmer and the pensioners occupied lower spots on the food-chain.

Of course, he spotted the brunette who effortlessly ignored him, the blonde who was practically another species and the muscle-bound hunk who appeared to place his entire self-worth on the circumference of his biceps. It annoyed Luke that the latter was the pool's apex predator.

A second unfortunate habit Luke had was to subconsciously calculate his percentage chance of finding love. As in all places, the answer here was zero.

Engrossed in his Michael Chabon book, Luke only looked up again when the hunk peacock-strutted towards the pool. As the hunk dove in, Luke spotted something much more enchanting.

Inadvertently, he locked eyes with an adorable misfit. His heart skipped as she casually flicked her thumb in the hunk's direction and rolled her eyes.

She stared at Luke before reaching for something behind her. With some effort, she clumsily held up a matching Chabon novel.

They both smiled.

Luke was happy to discover that, sometimes, his arithmetic was slightly off.
