I know for most of us here the ultimate goal is to become a successful published author and I began wondering (I'm a newbie after all) how many on the forum and in the contests are already published.

This doesn't mean you have a novel on the NYT best sellers list but have been published in an anthology, magazine, etc.

Thought I would put this poll out there just for fun to get an idea.

Thanks again for all who participate!Clap

I wrote a lot in my teens and twenties and published a dozen or so short stories in lit mags back then. I got jaded about writing and took most of my 30s off, returning a couple of summers ago through this contest. I published a handful of stories last year, including a piece I wrote for a round of NYCM:

I took part in the Yeah Write Super Challenge #4 and came out the winner after three rounds. They don't publish, but I ended up finding a home for that piece:

And this one was also from late last year - I had been rejected by this site several times but kept trying until they bought one:

I haven't been writing much this year, but now I'm trying to turn that around, entering contests again, racking up fresh rejections, and hoping to hit with something again soon!

I remember your EveryDay Fiction piece from Flash two years ago (it was my first time here, too!) Glad to see it found a home, it's a great story! :)

Besides my books on Amazon (which I don't really count as they're KDP), I've got a story in an anthology that just came out, "A Kiss and a Promise" from Smoking Pen Press (my story is called "Only Ever Slowly" and is probably the most determinedly nonromantic romance ever), and I have a flash piece called "Life Plans" coming in Spark Magazine in November for their "Lab Coats and Love Letters" issue. WAY back in ye olden days I had a story in the vampire-fiction magazine "Dreams of Decadence", but they've been defunct for years.

Small fry, but I've had five stories purchased and published by the NSW school magazine for primary/secondary students. Cool thing is they get illustrated Smile. I just found out a couple of weeks ago they want to hold on to my latest submission, so fingers crossed that will get published as well.  Apart from that I've had short stories in four anthologies, but that was through the Uni I went to, so I don't know if it counts......

I have been publishing my work since the early '80s. All short fiction, flash, poems, and essays. Probably the best known journal was Narrative, but there are others I am proud of. Once, many years ago, a judge here said s/he would fight hard for a story of mine if it crossed their desk at a particular journal, so I sent it to them, and they bought it. For money even!

I only started writing about 3 years ago... in fact NYCm FF was my very first foray into fiction after a friend who read my now defunct, angry-divorced-lady-blog (hey don't laugh, it's part of the process!) LOL suggested I give it a try with her.

Published my first short with The Ponder Review in the spring of 2017 and am currently at a dozen published or forthcoming shorts in a variety of places.

Working on a novel that I hope will be ready to shop at the first of the year but it is slow going because, you know, life and working hard at my day job to provide for my dog in the manner he's become accustomed....

I had a few poems published in hard copy books many many moons ago (the internet, what?). Recently I had my first short/flash piece published at Asymmetry Fiction.

I have a dozen or so things floating out there now in submission-land, and I'm hopeful some of them will be accepted but I suppose we'll see. I've only recently started writing with publication in mind, and in the midst of all the short stuff I'm also working on a novel but... that is pretty slow going. I hope I finish it before I die. LOL

PS - great thread! I like reading everyone's stuff!
