I've actually finished mine...now to wait 24 hours, and see if I hate it tomorrow. I do that too often. x_x

Like last year, started writing three different stories simultaneously. Unlike last year, they then started to merge into each other. very bizarre. but not as bizarre as the final round last year, where I though I was writing one ending, then looked down and realized I'd written another. Swear to God that actually happened. I don't try to explain this stuff. :-)

I have made zero progress...not really a fan of my genre(sci-fi) but I always seem to work better under pressure. We shall see.

I had my idea and basic plot points within an hour of seeing my genre and subject. After 48 hours, I had 11 pages. Then, the proverbial wall - in my case, a Stranger Than Fiction like obsession with how I'll put to rest my characters.

I started two ideas and scrapped both today. Fortunately, had an idea that spun into an outline in about 15 mintues, so I'll start on the tomorrow. Definitely a different vibe than last year when I took off quickly and ended up having to cut pages. Oh, and I have to be done by Thursday night when my parents arrive in town. :)

Gotta love the "writing mind" - wish mine took over more often - writing mind is wise!

Are you by any chance a Natalie Goldberg fan? This sounds like something right out of "Writing Down the Bones," probably my all-time favorite book about writing.

No I actually heard that directly from Tom Perrotta ("Little Children") at a lecture he did for my writers conference...all week we all were talking about that and about how when things "fall out of the ceiling" (that one was from Dennis Lehane) it's often the best part of the work. I have to read that book, thanks!

Ooh I just looked that up on Amazon. I'm so interested in the whole idea of letting the images and scenes just come to you. I find that very difficult to do with screenwriting since I feel like you have to write to please producers...which is part of why I switched to prose (at least for now). maybe when (if) I'm better at it I can write a good feature that also pleases producers??

To paraphrase Goldman, I try not to figure out the creative process cause I'm afraid that if I do, I'll wake up one day and it'll be gone. :-(

All right, I'm about 2/3 through draft one. Looks like I'm gonna come in long, then spend two days whittling. May the Gods of Character Consolidation smile on me.

I am in around 11 pages, about 2200 (give or take words. I have some cleaning up to do.

Does anyone know what specifically the judges look for? content, structure, formatting, story? Please don't say all of the above!!!

They must give elements "weight". Right?

Thanks all you seasoned creative genious's~~~
