GROUP 34:
Comedy | Piece of cake | A recruiter
Comedy and a recruiter, nice. Piece of cake as a subject??? Noooo.... What does that even mean? A literal piece of cake? Figurative piece of cake? Either? Both? Aaaaargh!!!

Hahaha. At least we're in this together. I was lying awake last night thinking to myself...It would be nice to get COMEDY for a change. Woke up to the prompt regretting what I wished for and feeling suddenly un-funny. Good luck.

GROUP 39
Drama, Second Fiddle, A blabbermouth
What I'm finding hard about drama is 1) not being able to lean on the genre more for inspiration and 2) not making it too comedic

Group 22 Ghost Story Dispatcher Unsolved
14 hours into this. I have 3 stories. 8/8/10 pages long. Now I have to see which one rises to the top.
An R-rated homage to Nightmare on Elm St. A classic “You couldn’t save me, but you can avenge me” ghost story
And a haunted call… with a twist!
I do like each one but now I have to get into it with these characters to see what we’ll see.
“Let’s Scooby Doo this sh*t!”

GROUP: 5 GENRE: Thriller SUBJECT: Cycling CHARACTER: A carefree person
I had Thriller in round 1 last year, so I'm not thrilled (ha) about it -- would love some variation! I've actually had it three times now, the first two times didn't go well for me, so hopefully the third time will break the streak!
Good luck everyone!

They certainly are not doing any of the fairy tale people any favors with the prompts...

Wanna hear something crazy? A dispatcher friend of mine just told me a story on Saturday about how somebody there received a 911 call and it was a younger caller saying his dad was unconscious, but there is a ghost involved - I won't say the rest only because I don't wanna ruin any ideas or anything but I almost fell off my chair...If I would have been assigned to this group I would have pooped myself! Have fun with this one! I'm so jealous because I literally had an idea fall into my lap that I can't use!!
Wish we could trade assignments...

I got Romance, a Guitarist and Collusion.
I didn't write anything on purpose for 3 weeks coming up to this entry in hopes that I'd be able to concentrate my creative juices. Boy did it work! I just have to remember not to add too much comedy. I got Drama last year and that was one of the notes. I wish everyone good luck!

Good call on not adding too much comedy, especially with Romance, or else it veers into Rom Com territory. Been there before!
Good luck!

I got Action/Adventure, a craftsman and 'reunification'. Oh. God. This is not my genre. I'm having to lean heavily into influences from previously watched movies like 'The Mummy', 'Tomb Raider' etc.
It's probably veering more into rom-com territory at the moment but.... I'm trying :D
Good luck everyone!

I hear you. I would usually like fairy tale, the one prompt, ghost town really played with my head, lol. I will have something, but not my best... Hope yours works out.

Thanks Suave <3 you, too!
I've got something now, and I feel like it's at the point where if I start over-editing it's going to be worse off for it. Just going to submit, hope for the best and learn my lesson for next year!

Just realized prompt 18 is the Hallmark Mysteries prompt- Romance, collusion, a guitarist.
Anyone have contacts for them? I can easily flush this into a 100 page script. I can even provide the 10 page story as an extended treatment!

Well this year I got the genre which I think pushes me furthest out of my wheel house:
GROUP 20 GENRE: Rom Com SUBJECT: Last resort CHARACTER: Chameleon
I spent the first couple of days just watching rom coms and also and the respective epsiode of the excellent Mark Kermode programme, 'Secrets of Cinema' where he breaks down the beats used in different genres. I think I've got my head round it.

Hey Jess! Nice to see you here again. I am working away at a CRIME CAPER (not my genre at allll), and my prompts are "shortcomings" and a "clockwatcher."
I had to attend a family wedding and got sick this week so I am really cutting it down to the wire here.
Hope you're having fun with your prompt!
