I love this contest!
Remember that this year it is only ten pages! I saw some horror stories over in the short Story contest of people now realizing that contest had been shortened!

What genres are people hoping to get? I'm wanting sci-fi or horror and really dreading political satire or romance... or comedy... I'm scared of getting a lot of genres!

Anything cept Spy...I hate Spy with a white hot hate. Ten pages is not enough for it either.

It's been years since I have written a lick. Whatever I get, I just hope it flows at some point.

I'm hoping to get historical romantic political satire comedies involving roller skating during the Black Plague.  It's a super-specific genre they don't throw out there often enough.

This will be my first time in this section. I'm really excited. Are the categories as bizarre as the short story competition?

I used to dread a lot of the genres, but either I'm more confident now, or the light in my soul has been snuffed out, I no longer have fears. My only concern is timelines, as I have a stupid busy week next week, so if I get research-heavy set of prompts, like historical fiction, that's going to eat up time figuring out the right era/event!

I got Pol Sat two years ago and it was actually a blast. I am a comedy writer, though, so that might have made it easier for me. That's the thing I like the most about this contest, is how it pushes me past my comfort zones, and forced me to explore genres I don't choose to write in.

I can't wait for the prompts, I just hope they're kind to me. It is my birthday in a few days, so give me some unreal prompts, NYCM!

Good luck, everyone! May the prompt Gods bring you good fortune.

You're doing something fun.   Something for you.  And that's okay.

The first time frame is 8 days.  Plenty of time to nibble around the margins of having an 8 month old.  it'll come back to you.  The brain will remember how to do this.  4 years isn't an eternity.

You've got this.

Go get 'em.

o.O

... THANK YOU!!!

I didn't even read the updated instructions, been doing it for years. Thanks for the heads up it's changed to ten pages! Gosh, that would've sucked.

First time in the competition, honestly excited for anything really!

Comedy & Political Satire are my strengths! I'll be cooked if I get Historical Fiction, Suspense or Thriller. At least with Drama I can write magical realism. But if I get Romance, I will end up writing a Romantic Comedy and so will probably get disqualified again.

I'm hoping for Crime Caper, Mystery or Spy since I haven't written those genres before!
