I was just curious, does anyone know on average how many people take part in the 100-word challenge?
Just wondering if it has as lively a forum presence as other challenges as I really like that aspect

Hi Molly,

You might’ve already found this out elsewhere but if not the stats given out in R1 last year stated there were over 5,400 participants taking part. The numbers varies each year but just to give you an idea.

There definitely won’t be this number on the forum but it does get very busy and there is always a good buzz around the micros, especially as it is easier to read and feedback on more stories due to the length.

Good luck with the comp, I hope to see your story on the forum sometime next week!

Lucy

Off topic but not sure where to ask:

I’ve written a story with numbered bullet points.

Does anyone know if the numbers count as words too?

Because it’s 100 words exactly but now I’m not sure if the numbers even got pasted into submittable.

Mildly panicking because if they haven’t then I need to cut an additional 22 words before midnight!

Good luck everyone xxx

Hey Tami,

Numbers are normally are counted but from memory there should be a word counter/limit on the text box that should kick in if over 100 words but that might not be the case - I might be muddling with other comps.

You can preview your story on submittable so can double check what has been submitted.

Lots of luck to you 🩷

When the challenge kicked off, I found the following info:

4,339 writes in 75 groups, approximately 58 writers per group
