Congrats to everyone for doing work finishing those scripts! Are we allowed to post our loglines now? I seem to recall in previous years threads were created mere hours after the deadline for folks to post prompts and loglines, but this year its been crickets, which makes me question if I’m making that all up in my head?

I was wondering the same! You're correct that last year we did post titles and loglines but I'm not sure if a rule has changed or it's just that fewer people frequent the SW forum these days.

Okay, so I’m not going crazy! I have noticed there was less buzz on here leading up to and during the first round compared to previous years. I remember there being more of a flurry of activity. So maybe that’s the reason.

Hmmm, I thought the submission emails told us not to post anything for 72 hours after the deadline, presumably to deal with corrupted files and late entries (which get comments from judges but can't go to round2).

Stories, as in actual readable scripts, yes! We have to wait for that email from NYCM before we post those. But loglines and titles have been shared freely previously between the deadline and when we receive that email…

I came looking for this earlier too.
Let's get this party started. @Nick, maybe edit the post to reflect that this is where we are posting titles and loglines. Here's mine:

GROUP: 36

GENRE: Romantic Comedy

SUBJECT: Skin care

CHARACTER: A frequent flyer

Title: Pimples, Potions & Personal Imperfections

Logline: In the kingdom of Eldoria, Princess Delilah, once the fairest of them all, faces a serious crisis - a complexion catastrophe. With her engagement ball fast approaching, she journeys to the Swamp Lands to seek help from an unlikely source.

I've really struggled lately with my writing mojo. I'm glad I did this as I've missed the screenplay challenges. I have been so immersed in the news and sooooooo wanted Political Satire, that it took me a long while to adjust from that place to find a warm place to write a Rom-Com. I went outside the box mashing up with Fairy-Tale and totally bashed my character prompt on the head, because it was out of the box and could've been missed, and because I got  DQ'd last year in Short story over my character's role not being relevant enough.

Group 11
Thriller
Take the Blame
A Superintendent

Logline:
When a Royal Canadian Mounted Police Sergeant survives a not-so-accidental plane crash in remote Northern Canada, she’s thrust into a time-sensitive fight to find the criminals responsible and save her superior from a similar fate.

--

I spent the first 2-3 days of this round devolving into absolute maddness wrapping my head around the thriller genre. I'm a comedy writer (ridiculous, mindless, raunchy comedies), so I was thrown for a loop with this one. I'm super happy with the end result, and yet again, I got my money's worth from this challenge!

I hope there are others in my group this year, I saw a few chatting in the other threads during the round, so hopefully other Group 11'ers post their stories -- I'm dying to see what others did with these prompts!

Thanks for getting this started, @nickwascreative! I also landed in the Thriller genre, and I am with you. That was TOUGH. Don't think I'll be getting any points for innovative prompt interpretation with the premise (and title) I chose, but it just all fit so perfectly, I ran with it and never looked back! Excited to read as many of these as I can when we get the green light to post in full.

But is there a Moose Bear?

The title alone makes me want to read this and I love suspense. Very excited!

Spoiler below:

There are, unfortunately, no moose or bear in the story :)

Hi everyone! Can't wait to read what y'all have come up with this go-around. :)
I went a bit eek at receiving Action-Adventure, so naturally had to give it a genre twist.

I had Horror (Not a fan)/Turn of the Century/Doppelganger

A similar thing happened when I was given a Romcom. I am so not a fan of the genre, but found myself having fun with this one. I was even done in 9 pages. #what???

I look forward to reading scripts and giving feedback!

Here's mine:

The Stillborn Walk

A grieving father makes a desperate deal with an enigmatic dollmaker to help his ailing son walk again—only to unleash a nightmare when the boy’s porcelain doppelgänger demands more than just life.

I pulled Drama for the second year in a row and was bummed not to try something new but it felt like a chance for redemption and feel good about what I came out with. I lost my mom a month ago so the prompt felt like the universe’s idea of a joke but it actually helped a lot and excited for the feedback <3

44

GENRE: Fairy Tale

SUBJECT: Imperfection

CHARACTER: An orthodontist

A Fairy's Tale
Two tooth fairy brothers defend their kingdom from the evil goblin Smuk.

I was hoping for horror or scifi, but I REALLY didn't want an orthodontist.  But I'm pretty happy with the result. I had one whole story written in my head and then wrote one page to see if it would fit in the limit.  Then tried to explain that story to my 8 year old and ended up throwing it out entirely based on that.  Then I wrote this instead.  I guess I didn't think about the log line at all until it was done (which made the log line easy to write...but I think it's usually supposed to be the other way around)
