When you're not writing in competitions/challenges, what genre do you create in?

I'm curious! Tell me about your current work in progress (WIP) ❤️

Mostly short comedy, or long sci-fi. But a lot of comedy. I just can't keep my mouth shut with friends on FB.

I'm mostly a speculative writer - which is why around here I'm likely to mash things up. My spy is a 3/4 siren. My thriller is set in a cyberpunk dystopia. My romance is with the angel of death. My comedy is making a deal with a demon. LOL

That being said, though I mostly publish fantasy, scifi, and horror, I've also pubbed litfic, histfic, noir, even CNF.

I'm currently pulling together a collection for release this October - ghost, monsters, and other things that go bump in the night. ╰(o﹏o)╯

I mostly write literary realism, some horror and essays. I used to write a blog for a company, and I found that stripped away a lot of my creative juices. I started joining these competitions to get that flexibility back.

My current, or more accurately, my off and on WIP progress is more memoir that will never see the light of day. It might develop some characters, though.

I have SciFi novel due to be published on 1st Sept.

GENEFIRE
A near future SciFi novel crossing space and time. In a world where genetic engineering is becoming the norm, even the simplest mistakes can be devastating.

Will def let you all know about it when it is available.

I'm a ghostwriter by day and that can be wearing content. It varies from current events, to political, to health and wellness, to mothering but all in the voice of whoever I'm creating for.

So, I love writing for myself to use my own voice.

I write books for my kids (ages 12, 10, and 8) and I'm currently writing on a few rom coms that I bounce between. I think I prefer the light content since my writing jobs are a little heavier.

Very cool, Lynda! I'd love to read it when you're published.

Also working on a YA, but a mystery.

Nothing, real life is hectic and I need the comp pressure to get anything done. The idea for a larger goal is starting to form lately, but I think once I start writing I’d stop comps

Working on a post-apocalyptic comedy. Started as a drama but then the MC accidentally shot the paramedic. He was kind of cute too. Pity, that.

Actually working on expanding out my short story from FF round 1! Fantasy! :)

I have tried and failed to write a full-length novel for a while now. I always get stuck, and then never come back to it. Hopefully, this will be my time to break the bad streak!

Congrats on your novel!!! I'll definitely be on the lookout for it!

Another speculative fiction writer here. I've got three things I'm working on, atm. A (hard)sci-fi/fantasy (and, hopefully, its sequel, but I'm pitching it as a stand alone, for now) that I'm querying (kind of a litRPG, virtual reality game gone wrong, but with a lot of moral dilemmas and a bit of romance), a fantasy novel that rivals the ideals of Christianity and paganism (which is my just for fun story that is technically completed but getting a final lookover---I'm sharing it on Wattpad), and an urban fantasy novel about a vampire who keeps meeting the same reincarnated woman (about 75,000 words or so, and nearing a complete first draft---also includes the angel of death as a side character and a demon possessed author, lol).

I write a lot of short stories, too. Some I share, but most I sit on, because I'm too chicken to send them out anywhere. Those are mostly horror/thriller.

And what about you?

I write science fiction and romance.  I've got the first 2 novels in my sci fi series drafted (working series title: The Hope Project).  I'm currently editing Book 1.  I'm almost half-way through my developmental edit.  Desperately want to get it to my first round of beta readers by September, but it's gonna be tough!

My stories tend to explore when and why we tell lies - to ourselves and to others.

I have nearly 30k words into one story I'm writing. I'm finding it difficult to get the motivation to continue with it, not because I dislike what I've written it's just with balancing writing that and everything else in life.

It's a fantasy story set in a financially declining city that follows the story of two teenage brothers as they navigate one being accused of the murder of a city official and the other as he develops some sort of otherworldly powers.
