Thanks for starting this! :)

I'm group 13: mystery / a distillery / a pocketknife

The Moonshine Murder

It’s 1931, deep in the mountains of Appalachia. A stranger returns to the place their mother was murdered to solve the mystery of who killed her.

I did not go my usual "...but in space" route on this one. Mostly because I barely understood distilling spirits in a predictable atmosphere 💀

Ooooh these are already sounding amazing! I'm group 65 - ghost story / a piano bar / dentures. I just flunked out of SSC R2 with a ghost story, so it feels like NYCMs giving me a second chance with this one haha.

Excited to get reading later in the week! Good luck everyone!

Someday We’ll Be Dragons

Lily has an imagination big enough to reshape her world. But dreams are nothing without someone to share them with.

Edit: I've just realised there's no comma after Someday. Should there be a comma? I don't know. Will this irritate me until the results come out? Probably.

I didn’t love these prompts at all and I had a full Saturday so it took me a while to get into it. I barely finished in time to edit and submit so I didn’t get any beta reads in but I ended up liking my story quite a bit. After reading the synopses in this thread mine feels pretty bland though.

Group 51 / Spy / A Battleship / Gummy Candy

A Family Game of Battleships

The last king of Germany, Kaiser Wilhelm II, knew three things for certain: 1) Gummy Bears were the best thing to come out of the Weimar Republic, 2) His cousins, King George V of Britain and Nikki, Tsar Nicholas II of Russia, cheated at Battleships and 3) if their grandmother, Queen Victoria, had still been alive, she would never have allowed it!

The synopsis was a lot more snappier but panicked that there is a pretty good chance my three judges will have no clue about who the British/German/Russian royal family were at the start of the 20th century! As I was writing this post a much simpler idea for a story popped into my head, which would've had more universal appeal 🤦‍♀️.

Oh well!

Love the mix of stories and titles so far, well done everyone!
