Hello everyone! I'm nowhere near the beta stage just yet, but I've seen a few people asking about betas so figured I'd make a sheet to help out!

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1PmUJUmYO8fEdBT8U_t1iE28Ve6eYHR1EDAeGCj6Hsps/edit?usp=sharing" rel="nofollow - https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1PmUJUmYO8fEdBT8U_t1iE28Ve6eYHR1EDAeGCj6Hsps/edit?usp=sharing

For any newbies:
Welcome to NYCM!! The beta sheet is a way of finding people to read and give feedback on your story prior to submission, and can be really helpful if you're unsure whether a plot point works or how to cut those last pesky words. It's pretty easy to participate - just add your details to the google sheet above and either wait for someone to contact you, or go ahead and email them first (just make sure they're NOT in the same group as you, and that they're currently "open" to receiving stories). The format you use is up to you, but I find most people prefer you to send your story as a google doc with commenting enabled.

Once you've found a beta (or several) the usual etiquette is to return the favour by reading and giving feedback on their stories as well. Just remember to be nice - we're here to give constructive criticism, not crush souls. ;)

Happy writing!

For the first time ever I finished something well before deadline, so I'll be open all day today to read everyone's works. Hope some of you can read mine too :)

Thank you for making this Beta Sheet.  This is my first time in this competition and it is great to have the ability to have someone (or multiple someones) review my story before submission.  I am available most of the day with a short break this morning to take my granddaughter for a driving lesson (pray for me!) then I will respond as quickly as I can to anyone who would like me to review their stories.

Good luck everyone!

Can anyone tell me what "open/closed" represents? Or "forum name?" Some of us just turned 50 here and befuddle easily LOL This seems like a great idea though (esp once I understand everything!), and thank you for putting it up for us

PS When I have that doc open, is everyone else denied access while I edit it? Sorry if this is a dumb question

I've always wanted to have someone else other than my husband read my challenge stories. Finally putting myself out there to join the BETA crowd.

Open/closed is whether you are available (open) or not (closed) to receiving any stories.

Forum name is what name you use on forums (so NateGr8ing in your case).

Nope, others can access and edit while you do.

Doing the beta thing for the first time!  Signed up and am open to stories. :)  I am letting mine sit for a few while I let it marinate but very willing to read others in the meantime. My info is on the sheet. Good luck everyone!

In for a penny, in for a pound. Let's try this beta thing out, too, while we're at it.

Lol - I'm a newbie so I didn't know this existed until I submitted, but my 10 year old read it and thinks it's a good trailer and he wants to read the rest of it so I'll take that as feedback

Thank you to everyone who reviewed my story!  I appreciate all the feedback and it really helped me to feel more confident about my submission!!

Also thank you to everyone who has let me review your stories.  I have read some really amazing stories so far!  Hope to make it to the next round, but I am really enjoying the experience of just writing with you all  :)
