As long as your screenplay submission is an adobe .pdf or word .doc, you may use any screenplay software you like.  You can ask other writers about the software they prefer.

You can also check out our supporting sponsor, Write Brothers, for different software options including http://www.screenplay.com/products/mms/index.htm - MovieMagic Screenwriter and http://www.screenplay.com/products/hs/index.htm - Hollywood Screenwriter .

There is also free screenwriting software out there, such as RoughDraft.

You can convert the output to .doc for entry if you have MS Word just by loading and re-saving the document, or use a free PDF converter.

For feature scripts, I use Sophocles, most people use Final Draft or MovieMagic Screenwriter, but if you're just writing a short you probably don't need any expensive software.

So I'd save my script in regular MovieMagic Screenwriter format and re-open it with Word?  Or would I save it as an .rtf file?

Martha,

If you have MovieMagic Screenwriter, when you are done with your script, you can choose to save it as a PDF. That file can be easily read and is an acceptable entry format.
