Morpheus’s Lament

Genre: Fantasy/Mythology

Bored by eons of monotony, the Oneiroi Morpheus finds an unexpected light in the dreamscape. But is it worth it to lose himself in a human’s dreams—for they are nothing if not mortal.

(And I just realized this has a pronoun confusion. Swell.)

Mine is drama...excited for Wednesday and seeing what everyone came up with!

Of Naked Exams, Jedi Knights, and One More Time

We all know dreams are born of memories, fears, and wish-fulfillment--but what we know and what we hope for are two very different things.

I know, pretty vanilla synopsis, but damn, those things are so irrelevant to good fiction.

I wasn't really aiming for a particular genre, but ended up writing historical fiction... who knew?

Asleep, Awake

French chef Lazare Milhaud never stops creating recipes, not even when he sleeps. Consequently, when his subconscious speaks, he is far too busy dreaming up dinner to listen.

Historical fiction

Nicht Loslassen

Brief Synopsis: On her deathbed, an old woman dreams of the terrible day she and her brother were ripped apart before boarding the train to Auschwitz. She refuses to let go until they can journey home, hand-in-hand.

I can’t wait to read every single one of these — just from the descriptions I can tell it’s an awesome batch of stories. I’m a little worried because mine has a similar premise to several of the above, but I’m sure they’ll be distinct enough in the actual content.

Mine:

No Traveler

Two sisters - one living, one dead - attempt to reunite in the dreamspace between worlds.

I ended up writing Fantasy. The Dream prompt told me to. Big smile Some amazing titles and synopses in this thread. Can't wait until we can share. Final rounds tend to be a little lonely.

On the Canvas of Dreams

The keeper of dreams paints the landscape of Anna’s subconscious journey, lived in parallel to her waking world. As they approach the End, will a latent memory ruin the final masterpiece?

I didn't know you had to give the genre when submitting. I wanted to add a question mark after science fiction on Submittable but refrained. LOL  I don't usually write it and it felt pretty bold of me with all the amazing science fiction writers in this contest.

(editing my post like editing my FF: science fiction repeating 3 times. ha.)
(who let this woman on here?)

I wanted to add a question mark after I listed Historical Fiction as my genre. I was like, "Uh, historical fiction...surrealism?" LOL I just left it simply as historical fiction, but I definitely wanted to add a couple of more genres after it.

Also, I think that's the first time they've added that part on the submission form (I made finals in Short Story this summer, and that wasn't on the form for the open genre).

The Human, Outside His Natural Habitat

In a lonely valley in the Kashmir mountains, a photographer searches for an elusive and magnificent creature: the snow leopard.

I put "Drama/Adventure" as the genre, but it's not quite either of those things. Is there a genre for "I really like writing about nature"?

Untethered

A woman can’t escape the stress and reality of her life, even in her dreams

Genre: Drama

Thank goodness we don't get judged on synopsis, mine are always so boring because I don't want to spoil anything.

I had a million huge ideas and ended up really loving the scope I landed on. Also, I realized 15 minutes after the deadline that I submitted a version with and outdated line (a small line, but a VERY important line)!

I resubmitted and re-emailed, but I am sure they will judge on the submission that actually made the deadline. Really, it doesn't kill the story with the old version, but the newer version is much better.

I am so excited to read everyone's final stories!

This marked my 31st NYCM round (18th of FFC), and I think this might've been the hardest location I've ever dealt with (worse than a diving board and cable car, lol). I'm relieved I wasn't the only one to struggle with it. Good luck!

SandMann, Inc.

Genre: Sci-Fi?/Action?

Scott is the top dream programmer at SandMann, Inc., so he's not surprised when he's called to troubleshoot in the middle of the night. However, the problem is far bigger than he anticipated.

Think that's what I ended up with. I was too busy making plot-holes by filling in other plot-holes to come up with a good synopsis.

Ok, this sounds cool. Honestly, when I heard the location I thought man, those who can nail fantasy, fairy tale, sci-fi (and maybe even political satire - a girl can dream, right? and Kuddos to anyone who chooses that genre!!!) are going to rock this!! Can't wait to read this. Big fan of the Griffin one.
