I'm in group 17, rom-com also. I said "UGH!!!" really loudly when I saw my assignment. I guess I've been lucky enough to not get it in all the years I've been participating in NYCM so it was bound to come around, but I'm still bummed. I'll try to have fun with it anyway.
Hope you do too!

Trying to channel my inner Meg Ryan and early 90's Julia Roberts! Ha! Good luck to us both!

Group 84, historical fiction. I groaned when I saw the genre, but it could have been worse...it could have been rom-com.  ;)

Group 60, rom-com here as well... I immediately thought Julia Roberts, then Love Actually. Is that bad? I have no idea what's funny these days. I would have liked a historical-fiction! I'm watching the Crown right now and would have written about Diana and Camilla ending as besties instead of frenemies. Hahaha!

I'm in group 44.
I got sci-fi which is one of the best genres I could have gotten. Kinda threw me though. Complete mental blank followed by too many ideas.

Eeek. I got action and/or adventure a second time in a row (counting the FF Round 2) and boy... it was all fun and games with 1000 words. Now it's just... a struggle.

Got romance and all my first ideas ended in tragedy. Have something cobbled together though. Will read it again Ina few hours and see if I still like it. Anyone else in group 116?

Me too, though I’m Group 31. This is the third time I’ve gotten rom com for something in the last six months, please stop, NYCM! LOL

Crowbar? Romance? You haven't been on Grindr lately.

I mean obviously JK but I hope that helps inspire a joke somewhere.

ARGH! I got historical fiction!! Group 79.

This is my first time playing too :) Excited. So far my draft is 3x the word limit LOL :]

I got 85, I wasn't thrilled originally, but I'm happy with what I submitted. Horror isn't really my strong suit though

I've got romance. I have to be careful and stay in my lane and not go to rom-com. That's easier for me.

My action is dyeing hair.

That's a rom-com looking for a place to happen, so . . . . gotta watch it.

I got action and/or adventure, feeding an animal, word wish, and I am struggling right now- my drafts keep leaning pretty heavily away from "action" and are heading more toward fantasy adventure. The "and/or" is throwing me off too because that's not how it's listed in the genre see definitions. Time to just commit to something and let it turn out however it turns out I guess.

I'm in Group 30. Historical Fiction, has to involve eating chocolate.

I have learned so much about the history of chocolate today...

Same group as me, my first ever stab at Horror (no pun intended). Not sure how good my effort is, time will tell!

I got rom-com too - group 1. I wrote the story and paired it down to 250 words pretty quickly - but I'm not sure how comedy it is. Fingers crossed I can make it to round 2. Good luck everyone.

Group 60. This is my first time doing this, and I was really thrown off at getting Rom-Com. My first thought was "How the heck do you do a romantic comedy in only 250 words?" However, there are plenty of rom-coms set in other genres (like horror or action), so that made it easier for me.

I'm listening to the You've Got Mail soundtrack right now, lol. LOLLOLLOL I'm trying something really weird that hopefully may work. I have a back up story idea I may pivot to if it doesn't come together. Good luck to us, and look forward to reading yours!

I got ghost story, breaking glass, block.
The obvious idea is kids breaking into an empty house on an abandoned block, but don't want to go with obvious. So I've done something entirely different instead, and submitted. Just a bit afraid it might be more horror than ghost...

Group 42, comedy. I am not a comedic person.

I wrote my first draft and handed my laptop to my husband so he could read it. "I thought you said it was comedy?"

Me: "Um, this part isn't funny?"

"You do dry wit, that's something," says my husband. Yeah, thanks babe.

Damn that sucks. I got comedy too (Group 2), which is difficult enough for me. I'd be screwed if I had to write a rom-com. Give it your best shot!

I'm Group 22. Sci-Fi/taking pain medication/transform. Initially, I was bricking it. Submitted earlier. I have to say it wasn't that bad as categories go (she said wistfully, hoping at this very late stage for a fairy tale).LOL

I'm Group 68/ordering from a drive-thru/rich. This is hard for me. I'm almost never intentionally funny. Unintentionally, sure. But writing something that's meant to be entertaining? Ugh. I think I'd have preferred almost any other genre.

Ah well, we'll see what I make of it!

This makes me feel better, thanks. I'm stuck. My family reviewed my first go at RomCom and said it was depressing. They're right!     I can only think of the Wedding Planner-- ugggggghhh.

Hello groupmate! I struggled with this set of prompts as well, but am suspiciously happy with what I cobbled together. Congratulations on finishing Clap

Also Rom Com here, which is only slightly better than last time when I got Romance. I did my best with that one by taking the idea of "two hearts beating as one" rather too literally ;-)

Being a newbie, I am not even sure what the rom-com genre is! LOL...I guess I will eventually find out if I move on to round two or continue to enter this fun-but-challenging contest on an annual basis.

I am in group 13 and got Suspense/Thriller, which I was very excited about!

Talking with my writers group beforehand, i was "anything but romance!"

so i ended up in group 10 - romance!!!

I'm a paranormal fiction writer with a love of vampires and horror!

oh well... teenage romance it was!

All the Rom-Com's I've read (admittedly not many) or watched (a few) have been humorous and pleasant in a Jennifer Anniston kinda way rather than 'funny'. I think if you can get even a sniff of humorous and pleasant then you're more or less there.

Me, I got Romance (109).

Walks away head bowed, shuffling feet like a 5-year old pretending not to care.
