Well, the round 2 results are in. Congratulations to everyone who made it to round 3!

How did everyone do? Were your results a surprise?

---

Personally, I didn't get a placement or an honorable mention in R2, but I'm so happy that I participated and got two completed scripts out of the challenge. (I was in heat 8 in R2: comedy / a lottery / a dog walker.)

After my R1 script placed 1st in my heat, I felt fairly confident going into round 2, and my weekly writers group liked my R2 script more than R1. But alas, the competition was fierce. So, now I'm looking forward to checking out any available scripts from my heatmates who placed.

This was my first time entering an NYC Midnight challenge and now I can't wait for the next one. Good luck and many caffeinated blessings to the folks in round 3 this weekend!

I didn't move on either. I got stuck in a romance heat (#15), and Romance is NOT in my wheelhouse, so I didn't expect to  go on either.

Anyway, like the Cleveland Indians say: there's always next year.

I'm advancing, which is well beyond the non-existent expectations I set for myself. LOL

Screenwriting has just been a quiet hobby for me. I've never entered a screenwriting competition before; and, when I entered the NYC Midnight flash fiction comp a few years ago, I was out in the first round. So, entering this was really just something to do during lock-down.

But this has been tough, so I hope everyone - advancing or not - feels good about what they've achieved this year.

I never received any confirmation and every time I tried to upload it would freeze...in the end I emailed it in, but this was after this froze my computer.

However, this being my first experience with the contest I found that it was very challenging, not just given the time constraints, but also creatively writing for the first time in over 20 years. I wasn’t sure if I was even capable of overcoming my own physical limitations, I have suffered from an intense in retractable migraine that has made working with computer screens a constant issue. I started trying to write small things at first in preparation to see if it was possible, and I managed only a week before the contest to finally accomplish the goal of close to 1000 words.

Even if nothing else came from this experience, I have a renewed sense of confidence. I want so bad to start writing again, and hopefully one day my goal of starting a blog (Once I figure out how to get technology to cooperate, of course). 😊

Congrats on making it to the next round! Looking forward to seeing what you come up with. Since it's open genre, do you have a preferred genre you'll likely lean toward?

We’re moving on as well. Got 1st in our heat, so that’s very exciting!
We felt confident about our chances based on the feedback we received but the ranking of 1st was a pleasant surprise.

Sorry you aren’t moving forward but I’m glad you’ll be back. We only started entering last year and we got completely addicted.

As an old timer here, what I would say is that previous placings are no guarantee of anything. In the first round you’ll be up against a lot more less talented writers and those who don’t bother to participate after signing up.

In Round 2 you’re up against all the best writers from R1, so it’s tougher.

If you make the final round - it’s 90 of the strongest writers so even tougher.

I’ve seen previous winners crash out at the first round stage the following year. It’s a cliche, but you’re only as good as you’re next script.

For what it’s worth I am in the final this weekend. Got 1st place with a comedy in my 1st Round, and 3rd with a thriller in 2nd Round. With 90 finalists I have no expectations. I just want to enjoy it and whatever will be will be.

Haven't chatted with you in ages, D. How are you? Good to see you, as always, and congratulations on moving into the final round. I'll keep an eye out to see how you do. Best of luck. --Scott.

Thank you! I'd like to do a drama or romance, but we'll see how the subject and character shake out. Don't wanna box myself in. Smile

Hi Heatmate!!

We should go have a beer together and commiserate.

Same thing happened to me, as I regret now I didn't pay attention to the dramatic development of my comedy.  Got very involved in trying to be funny. Arggh.

I was disappointed not to move on, but what a great experience.  Thanks to all who read, and especially to those who laughed!!

Good luck on the finals, looking forward to reading them all.

I'll be toasting to ya tonight, E.

Looking forward to reading your script! Just posted my R2 script to the forums (always late to the party):  https://forums.nycmidnight.com/topic35425_post369194.html#369194" rel="nofollow - https://forums.nycmidnight.com/topic35425_post369194.html#369194

Since I had already blocked out my Saturday to write -- had I been fortunate enough to advance -- I'm dedicating the day to writing a new script anyway. Hope to see ya in the next competition!
