Do I need to slug every room?

INT ROOM A - SOMETIME

character walks into

INT ROOM B - FOUR STEPS LATER

character forgets why they went to room b and

INT ROOM A - FOUR STEPS LATER

remembers again and goes back to

INT ROOM B - FOUR STEPS LATER

picks up her glasses and goes to

INT ROOM C - TWO STEPS LATER

Seems a bit excessive.  There's four or five rooms of varying sizes, all in the same set...er...location...er...building.

From what I've seen, yes. Because it's all about being a guide for filming. Each scene location requires new setup of camera/lights. So you can do one main slug, then sub-headings for each room.

Int. House - day

Kitchen
Jack paces back and forth. He quickly leaves the room.

Hallway
Jack walks angrily down the hallway, slams his fist against the wall. He shoves open a door, enters the

Bedroom
He throws himself on the bed and screams into a pillow.

Not fun for space, but this is what I've seen done.

I'd add that those sub headings should be uppercase

KITCHEN

HALLWAY

BEDROOM

Shot headings/secondary scene headings do eat a lot of space, but they also give a page a nice visual rhythm.  You can see something is going on with just a glance.

I usually like to slug people that question me, but that is just me.

Hey, I was only going to slug rooms.  They're all slugged right now; I can save quite a few line breaks if I unslug them, but I'm not sure how to explain that to Final Draft yet.

Very carefully.  You don't want to hurt its feelings.

I forgot to type "fade out" at the end. I submitted already. Will bad things happen?

The screenplay police will be by shortly.

I've heard conflicting theories on whether or not it's needed, but you have time to resubmit as well.

Thanks! I quickly resubmitted. Now I'll catastrophize (sp?) over a potential technical glitch, but that's how I do. LOL

its fine to leave it off at first, but if your script gets produced, the movie never ends

Well, to be fair, none of us know how it comes out yet.

I'm one of the conflicting differing opinions... I have not used FADE IN and FADE OUT in a NYCM entry since 2015, and not a single judge has mentioned them being absent. I also avoid scene transitions (CUT TO:, DISSOLVE TO:, etc.) as much as possible, as they eat up way too much page space. I doubt the Format Police will have any issues with your missing FADE OUT.

Thanks! I ended up adding it and resubmitting, because I saw in the screenplay writing advice that they do include it. But I had a feeling it had sort of fallen out of favor. I figured - just in case...

One day, the space I have will fail, and I will drop FADE IN and FADE OUT for an entry here rather than a line of my deathless dialogue, to test NilesPerry's hypothesis myself.

But this is not that day. Tongue

I've never heard you need to add fade out or fade in, and logically I'd think those should only be included if you want your opening to fade in and your ending to fade out, which in movies, they only sometimes do
