I only know this church line because of John Mulaney. Watch his shows.

Other than that, I expect nothing out of this, because round 1, and I'm sorry for being away form the boards and not reciprocating this time around. I needed to... err... do life?

So there. Here we are again...

Good luck everyone! Smile

I'm just glad to see I wasntw alone in the lack of reads this time. It's been a crazy couple of months, and didn't get to read many at all this time. Will try to still get to more within the next week, though.

Somehow came top in the last challenge for an overall second place in my group, which surprises me somewhat as the forum response (and my own) to my last script was lukewarm. Just goes to show that sometimes the judges are bonkers. Not going to complain though.

Ps it’s a bit annoying they don’t list the title of the screenplay or even the user name so we can cross reference winners with forum users...anyone have any suggestions on how to easily match name to project?

Never going to get back to sleep now.  lol.  How did we all do?

Yay Janet! So shocked I made it through. And hoping you are not in my group again! Wink

Also....The best way I can think to match the scores, is to cross reference the winners of round 1 with the scores that are listed for round 2! If that makes sense.

This is about how mine went. I didn't care for mine this round and was keeping fingers crossed for 5-8 points to maybe have enough to squeak through, and got 13? The judges are so hard to predict, but definitely not complaining this time!

I actually forgot that results were being posted yesterday. I blame starting on income taxes for chasing that info from my brain. I squeaked into the next round, but whatever works. Not surprised my C2 script didn't place as high as C1 -- I stretched the limits of my genre a tad.

Congrats to all. Onward.

Same, I hated writing that second one. Didn't beta and didn't post here. I didn't want to draw that experience out any longer than it had to be!

Hopefully we'll get some interesting prompts this time that feel a little bit meatier. I found it difficult last round to write something I'm interested in with the prompts we were given.

This was the first time I wrote in American English too! The prompts just didn't fit England, somehow, (for me, anyway), but I'm way more comfortable writing in British English. I know we're surrounded by American media all the time but I still feel really out of my depth when I "pretend" to be American and to really understand what I'm talking about or how people speak. Back to England next round I hope...

This is why I actually thought the prompts were challenging, because the conclusions I jumped to felt so obvious - suspense, so a legal poker game would be sort of boring, and as gambling is perfectly legal in Britain the obvious place to go is America. The microphone just screamed stock jazz singing diva, and since I've been in a New York jazz club with a stunning diva jazz singer performing...well, it all felt too obvious. I'd have gone outside the box a bit more but I had really limited time for the last challenge (as I will for the next). Obvious won the day.

My scripts and short stories are usually very English, but I decided that if I was going to write a New York-based script then I had to go full on with the spelling and vocabulary (I originally described the poker table as green baize, but a beta told me that Americans would just call it felt so I changed it).

Evidently we both faked it well enough!
