I got historical fiction in the last Flash Fiction Challenge it and was very disappointed at first... but I ended up loving what I wrote. I think you just have to “make it your own” (true of any genre, I guess).

Your logline for Belle of the Ball looks good to me! It’s not snazzy, but it shouldn’t (necessarily) be. I think it’s functional, efficient, and tells me what I need to know.

I'm not too happy with my piece, worried it's too light and I didn't put many cues that this was 1959 New York City (other than stating in the opening scene heading "1959 New York City") though I felt that was the director's area. Yours sounds good!

I slightly love mine and slightly hate it. I'm excited to read all the different takes on this prompt - such an odd combination on this one, and I was expecting several bank robber tales, it's nice to see we all went wildly different.

Group 25 - Horror/An evidence room at a police station/A cactus

Raised Incorruptible

After six members of a notorious cult are found dead, Detective Chief Inspector Hodges and Detective Inspector Singh attempt to find out the purpose of the group's strange ritual - as well as the cause of their deaths. However, the Church of Earth and Bone may have planned more carefully than the police could have prepared for.

---
My first go at horror, and as a massive wimp who almost never watches anything scary I actually scared myself a bit writing this - so hopefully that bodes well! I'm pretty pleased with it anyway, even though my one goal this time was to write a story that made any sense, and now in the light of day even the logline seems a bit confusing lol, let alone the story itself. Oh well, I'll get em next time.

Anyway I like these threads, it's really cool seeing the awesome ideas from my other group members (and everyone else)!

Okay.. I'm in group 36.  Political Satire/Pub/Mouse.

I wrote TWO completely different scripts this weekend (while at my father in law's funeral).  The second I was much happier with although I guess we'll see what the judges say ... and for the record... Political Satire is tough!! I hope I hit the mark.

The Mouse That Saw
When a family of Field Mice make a perilous journey across vast waters, they get an unfriendly welcome, even from their own kind.

Hey Tim,

Thanks...that's exactly what I did with it.

My premise was: What if the kids from Lord of the Flies were boys AND girls and instead of killing each other, they created the best society possible under the circumstances...and then what if someone came to rescue them and they were faced with the extreme cognitive dissonance of facing that their perfect society wasn't really as good as living in the real world?

It was a lot to tackle in five pages. I feel like a more experienced screenwriter would have been able to do more with it.

Which one is yours?

Haha thank you! I had fun coming up with the horrible secrets of their arcane rituals, and especially how they involved a cactus. One thing I struggled with for a bit was how to make a cactus scary, so I'm really interested to see how our group has dealt with that as well.

Your story sounds really exciting, and the title makes me want to know more! It has a great ring to it.

The Sweet Taste of a Woman
In pursuit of her favourite soap, Virginia meets Leonarda and
two become one.

You're all PERVERTS!

The Umbrella Government

A slick politician viles for votes with a gimmick that can’t seem to hold water.

Lost all my brain cells writing this one, had to order more on amazon.

PolSat, Escalator, Umbrella

I think that's a different genre, but it might be worth reading.  How do you get them all into five pages of script?
