The deep breath before the plunge.  24 hours of chaos, second-guessing, freaking out, and driving everyone around us nuts about to start.

Good luck to you all.  See you on the other side.

Thumbs Up

I'm going to go get a good night's sleep now that the prompts are out. I think we're going to see a lot of variety this round, since the prompts are pretty open-ended. Good luck again, everybody!

They didn’t email it—it’s just on the web page for the SSC: open genre, altruism, an actress.

How are we all doing so far? It's 1:30 pm here, and I've got my idea outlined and draft started. I've just got to get the first draft done in time to get some eyes on it!

Same time zone. I'm at about 700 words and alternating between "this is going pretty well" and "KILL IT WITH FIRE" from one minute to the next.

I did my usual "come up with a dozen plot lines and pick the one I'll have fun writing" method, working so far, I think... I'm flip flopping between "this is too much of a stretch" and "this isn't developed enough".

I'm hoping for a draft before supper and all evening to pick at it.

Feels like I'm on Chopped: Did I transform the ingredients? Did I just stick 'em on a plate? Did I leave one on the burner??

Similar method to me- I have a creepy method where I flush out a rough synopsis of half a dozen or so ideas, take a shower, and in the shower out loud I go through each of the plot arcs and figure out which one I get the most excited about.  It's weird, but whatever gets you there!

Haha, perfect! I get great ideas in the shower, but I forget a lot of them by the time I get out. I need a whiteboard in there or something!

I did loads of brainstorming last night for ideas before prompts and actually one of them fell beautifully into my lap with the altruism prompt...... hardly slept before the prompts were released, but got up at 5am UK time and cracked on. Spent 50% researching and right now am about half way through.

Given the time, pressure, crap I'm producing and the time scale.....will be SO SO SO happy just to submit something!!

So.............going to stop procrastinating and try to smash this!

Paula x

Good luck to you all too!
This is BLOODY MADNESS!!

Woah, Paula. What about sleep?!

Gah, I just submitted and I'm off to bed. It could definitely do with more work but I'm not sure tinkering for five more hours can save it so I'm saving myself and getting some sleep.

It's 11:50pm here (as you know!) so I feel like it's not too much of a cop out to go to bed now.

Pretty pleased to have submitted something because at one point today, I didn't think I would.

Good luck everyone!!

I'm on draft four after betas and sitting around 1,480. Part of me feels like this was too easy? I must be missing something and the story is actually crap because everyone went with WAY better ideas than me. Is it even proper to submit before dinner???

That's the sign of a VERY STRONG woman in my experience Chrissie! Ha ha! He wouldn't leave me alone! I did let him read the story before I submitted, and that made him feel better more than it made me feel better about what I'd written.
