After 5 points in round one and a script guaranteed to piss off half the political spectrum in round 2, I wasn’t hopeful but luckily the judges are clearly all feeling the Bern and I’ve squeaked through!

So who else is through? I’ve scanned and been psyched to see at least six forumites highlighted in yellow... but I don’t know all your real names!

Wrote my second script in a couple hours and put it out of my mind. Was certain I wouldn't be writing this weekend. Somehow, I pulled a 13 and am moving on. Took a few minutes to register my name was highlighted.

Congrats, Tim (and everyone else)!

Timmmmmmmayyyy!

I squeaked through with 18 points ... Bring on Round Two!  I got 13 points for my first script ... the Holocaust Museum ... but only five points for the Caesar Salad ... I think I got docked for not actually being inside a shipping container ... meh ... I thought it was a better script!  Let's see what happens in Round Two!

13 points this round for a grand total of 28. That'll do, pig.

The top three in my group (7) are all from New Jersey. Must be something in the water. Well done to Lisa and Splinker - and, indeed, everyone who advanced. Commiserations to anyone who didn't, but at least your weekend will be less stressful than ours...

Congrats to all through and good luck in next round.

After my zero in the first round (still niggles me it was judged to not be a horror despite it having a murderous demon at its centre) I was highly unlikely to progress. But pleased with my 12 points for my rom com.

See ya all in the Screenplay Challenge. Now off to celebrate a big Birthday weekend :)

I made it through, after coming first in my group in round two, backing up a solid score in round one. Most of my writing experience has been for the theatre so writing screenplays is a real test for me.  In round two I let it all hang out and I played with voice overs, quick cuts, multiple locations, bloody violence -- none of which you can really do on stage.  I think the screen writing is helping tighten my stage writing, and hopefully there's something in my stage writing that informs my screen writing.

I cut and paste the data on the people who got through into excel and ran a pivot table and I'm one of eight Australians who have made it through.  I will now refer to us as the Awesome Australian Eight.
There are also 16 Canadians, a single Swede, a solo Thai, three of my Kiwi cousins (settle down), 109 Yanks... but 12 Poms.  So you can't have everything. There's an old joke that when an Australian moves to England he or she raises the average IQ in both countries.

I get my round three assignment late on Saturday arvo, it's so hot here I think I'll be typing in my thongs. (Note for non-Australians, thongs = flip flops.)

It has just ticked over to Friday in this big burnt beautiful bastard of a country, so congrats to all who made it (even the Poms). I'm off to bed.

A single Swede is in for the ride of his life as he tries to beat a gang of Australians at their own game over one brutal weekend.

Congrats to all who are moving on.

After doing surprisingly well in round 1 (I didn't care too much for my script), I was decently confident about round 2. But one never knows in a subjective contest like this. So I'm very happy to be writing this weekend -- although not having family in town like I've had for the first two rounds may jinx me.

Personal question: are you in any shape or form related to our very own Lisafox??? Or perhaps Michael J Fox? Or, more likely, the Incredible Mr Fox?

I ran some stats of my own over in the "encouraging things we say" thread. Need to correlate them with the genres, I think, to get a picture of things, and that will take a little longer.

Hey, glad to meet you J_Fox! Definitely going to look at your scripts, I love reading what other people do with the same prompts.

Here in The States saying "Who's Through?" is a way of saying "Who's Done & Not Advancing."

So of course I thought "Who'd be wanting to say 'Oh, I didn't make it!'?"

But it looks like the significant contribution I made to the NYC Midnight PAC "Hold My Beer: Why political satire fiction can never top reality" help pull me over the line...

I actually read it as "Who's made it through?", and I'm a native speaker of American English. I think I unconsciously made the assumption that that had to be the meaning because, as you said, how many would want to be announcing they hadn't moved on?

See ya all in the Screenplay Challenge. Now off to celebrate a big Birthday weekend :)

First, HAPPY BIRTHDAY!  Enjoy your weekend.

Same boat as you.  Zero in the first round with what I think is a far superior script.  Then 14 in round two--there's no figuring it out.  I almost didn't do the second round because I was so upset about round one.  I'm glad I did.  I'm happy to go out with a 14.   Maybe I'll try the next Screenplay Challenge, otherwise, I'll see y'all in FFC.

Congrats to everyone writing this weekend.  Have a blast!

BTW, I have some time to beta this weekend.

Same here - 7 points isn't great, but it's far better than the zero I got in round one on what I thought was a MUCH better script. It's odd, but glad I did the second one anyway.

Happy birthday, Darren! And although I still wish I'd gotten to see your script, I'm glad to see it scored better for you than the first round.

I was in the same group as Andrea above.  I scored 1 pt. in the first round and sat just beneath her with 13 on the second, not enough to get through, but stoked to have my second screenplay ever score that well. I learned a lot!!!

Good luck everyone!!  See you in Short Story?

Almost always A; C only if it's pork, and Amazon delivers a lot of stuff to my place, but not groceries ;)

Just zeroing in on your regional dialect. Big smile

Thanks! Yes, I did draw it myself a few years back.

I’ve scanned and been psyched to see at least six forumites highlighted in yellow... but I don’t know all your real names!

Timmmmmaaaaayyy!  Hiya ... Isn't that always the way?  I got 13 for my first screenplay which I didn't think was all that crash hot, and only 5 for my Ceasar salad piece!

Still, it got me over the line and no tie breaker in my group!  A nod's as good as a wink to a blind man ...

My real name is Randall, BTW ... Scarlet Screenwriter is my nom de plume ... as a mysterious writer, not a drag queen ... Doh!

AWESOME AUSTRALIAN EIGHT
Can Bruce, Bruce, Bruce, Bruce, Shane, Bruce, Bruce and Sheila overwhelm the Evil Pom's Dozen, all the while battling the venomous spiders under their dunny seats?
(Almost certainly if the Ashes are anything to go by).

I moved to The Old Dart for a year ... Boy, you thought the Poms whinged in Australia ... you should hear them at home!  And Essex girls are dumb as dirt ... well good ... As Dame Helen Mirren famously said:  "How can you tell if an Essex girl is having an orgasm?  She drops her chips."

Yes ... ha ha ... Australia has deadly pests ... here is a video of spiders in a toilet ... and a deadly red bellied black snake that hitched a ride on a ute recently ...

I am through with 25 points (11, 14).  It's a mixed blessing. I'm happy to have advanced but I'm actually shooting a web series this weekend so I'm not sure how I'm going to squeeze in the next assignment.
