My Contest Entries (Below) and How to Fix Your Sig Easy!

Hello, fellow writers!
I have noticed that some newbies have had trouble hyperlinking their
signature or their signatures go to their stories rather than their
forum posts which makes it hard to make comments.

1.  Create your forum post following the subject rules.  Add your description and
hyperlink to the location of your story (wordpress, blogger, google
docs, etc.) using the globe and paperclip icon as usual.

2.  Copy the link to that forum post. *

3.  Go to your Member Control Panel, to Edit Profile, scroll down the page to edit your signature

You need to use BBcode brackets to make hyperlinks in your signature  [ ]
You put the address like this: [URL= webaddresshere ] Text/Title Here [/URL]

Here is mine as an example:

This one too.  This is my fourth year in NYCM (and I-don't-know-how-manyth comp), and I still have to look up the instructions every time.  Embarrassed

Happy to be corrected if I'm wrong (always), but wasn't there a thread a while back that said your work was vulnerable if you put a link with your signature, because it could be viewed and copied without logging in ... I never have because of that, and figure the master lists in both comps do just nicely.

I'm sure one of the old chums like Patsy or Sootfoot will remember ... or maybe it was over on Screenplay.

Bump for 2019

To answer the above question:  Never direct link your story in  your signature.  Hyperlink to your FORUM POST which can then be linked to your story wherever you have it (password protected blog if desired, too).

Is anyone else having trouble getting the signature to take? I can go directly to the forum post from the preview, but it's not showing up on any of my posts. Does it take a while to update? It's been about 30-60 minutes.

It should be near-instantly. Did you say "Show my sig on all posts"?

I have the box ticked in the control panel to show on all posts and I check in individual posts. Getting nothing.

I’ve figured it out! It doesn’t show on the mobile layout. Just switched to classic layout on my iPad and there it is.

I think if you just click "edit post" and then click out again on each post, it should then show your new signature...

Probably not the right thread for this, but thought I'd throw out a suggestion for anyone posting their stories to the forum.

It's *immensely* helpful if you list your assignment in your original post! Not just the genre, but all of the prompts. It saves the reviewer from having to look up your group and find out for themselves. I, for one, always like to consider how the author has incorporated all of the prompts - so if your post is going to make that easier for me to do, then I'm more likely to read your story...

Just a friendly PSA! :)
