I just didn't feel very inspired by my prompts - I love fantasy but the prompts felt too cliche. I did eventually settle on an idea but I wrote and rewrote it so much I got sick of it. Not feeling confident at all but then, I thought I bombed the first round too so maybe that's a good sign?
Orange juice for me i think.

Get me a french vanilla or I'll brew it myself.
The regret is already setting in. I considered myself lucky to roll Fantasy / Fairy tale when I read it because pretty much everything I've done for NYCM has been fantasy one way or another, and I even got an idea within ten minutes of reading my prompt.
I was pretty happy with my piece when I sent it in, but now that I'm reading through my beta feedback again I'm starting to get more and more anxious that the tradeoffs I made for wit and character voice made the inclusion of the required action suffer for it. Somehow I can already see the "honorable-mention-at-best" ending coming, and worst part is it's been total radio silence from the rest of my heat so I don't even get a chance to enjoy other takes thus far. Heeeeelp.

I stayed up late Friday in order to see what my prompts were (Sci-Fi/Donating food/Wave). I wrote them down and went to sleep, hoping to wake up to inspiration. Alas, it didn't happen. I wrote. It was lame and I deleted it half-way through. I wrote again. It wasn't as lame. Almost okay. I took a shower. Inspiration! Started over with different POV and wrote something I am proud of.

I did end my evening (after submitting my story) with a glass of Basil Hayden and a couple of episodes of "His Dark Materials"

I'll take a stiff one of whatever you have handy Unhappy I felt pretty good last night when I submitted, but this morning I'm feeling like I over-edited and took out a lot of the uncomfortable creepiness that initially made my story interesting.

Gahhhhh, we'll see I guess! (Grp 5: sci-fi/floating/normal)

I should pick a more exciting drink to celebrate with, but it's a regular coffee for me Sleepy

I'm glad it's done, I wrote the story I wanted to write and that's all you can do I guess. Have to say I'm enjoying these Micro Fiction challenges more than the longer competitions. Finally having the time to go to betas has been amazing, and it doesn't wipe out your whole weekend!

That is the best possible end to an evening! His Dark Materials is so good Smile

I'm not thrilled with the end result. It simultaneously feels too literal and too overwrought. Like shocker, this ghost story has a "GhOoOoOost." But the really scary part is the heavy-handed "metaphOoOoOoOors."

Ah well, time for wine!

I feel like I heard this post out loud, and I love it LOL Looking forward to reading your metaphOoOoOoOors!

Anybody else wake up in the middle of the night filled with dread and convinced they misspelled something obvious or submitted a first draft as the final by accident?

Stuff of nightmares.

Allow me to roll through with my cup of earl gray.

Not sure how my submission went though. I had historical fiction and bricklaying as an action, so I spent morning trying to decide on a setting I liked. Found a weird little historical fun fact and spent a few hours researching that to an unreasonable level of detail. Once that was done it was a matter of figuring out how to spin all that into 250 words of an actual narrative.

I like how it came out in the end, but am thinking it's probably not as complete a story as other things I've written for these contests. We'll see how it does. :)

Best of luck to you all and congrats on finishing!

I was pretty happy with my submission until late last night when I realized that I had essentially submitted a very short piece of geriatric masturbation porn in the guise of a ghost story. Not holding out much hope for this one!
