Hello! I know the form automatically removes italics, but is there an accepted way to denote them?

Since the form only allows plain text, any formatting including italics will be stripped out. While there are no rules against indicating that text is meant to be italicized, please keep in mind that any additional characters used in the story may be counted towards the 250-word limit and may be interpreted differently by the judges. Also, we wouldn't be able to say what would be acceptable since it would need to be communicated to all writers before the competition has started, but this will be a priority for future competitions. Please your best judgment and let us know if you have any other questions. Sorry for any inconvenience and best of luck!
Next up is the 250-word Microfiction Challenge 2020 kicking off Nov. 20th
