Hi. If a character says two entirely unrelated things, with some action in between - Final Draft automatically puts (CONT'D) after the character name for the second piece of dialog.

Is this right? I realize if you want to describe action in the middle of a character's speech, you would use this. But what if the two pieces of dialog are unrelated?

Thanks!!!

I don't use CONT'D -- unless the dialogue continues on another page.

In Final Draft, you can (and should) get rid of these by clicking on document, then select MORES AND CONTINUEDS, then shut it off.

Actualy using Cont'd is an industry standard. It's rare that you should not use it, even if your character pauses to do the specific action.

Unless that pause is going to be greater than 30 seconds CONT'D is almost a requirement.

Most people I read do not use CONT'D -- it's 6 of one, 1/2 dozen of the other.

Might depend on the script type. I've seen them removed from quite a few shootin scripts.
