This is my first time doing this. I don't have much experience, but would like to go to college to study screenwriting, so i figure I better get some experience. I am just here to test out my talents and everything. By the way, if you have any hints or tips, just tell me. Thabks! Can't wait to share/recieve criticism from everyone. Good luck!

By the way, I don't think anyone can vote in your poll for some reason.

That's strange. I wonder why?

No wonder, I have the only vote so far.

What did it say when you tried to vote?

Chris

Appears a site flaw - it looks like only you (Chris Messineo) can update the poll graphic - "You can not vote in this poll."

I suppose you could go back and examine the hanging chads of the posts and bring it up to speed by proxy (or just guess).

Yes, I am still in high school. That's why I am a little worried, because everyone else probably has so much more experience than me. But I am just here to gain experience. If anyone has any tips or anything, just lewt me now. Catch ya later!

I also caught the writing bug in High School (although that was many years ago).

What was most helpful to me, when I started out writing screenplays, was reading the work of others.

There is already a thread here where you can check out some of the scripts from last years contest.

Good luck,

Chris

I have a question for all of you who have done this before. I know 10% of the contest is your logline and the other 90% deals with stuff like writing ability, originality, etc. I was just wondering what you think is the most important thing out of all of those?

The rules specifically describe the scoring like this:

10% Logline (Level of Intrigue)

90% Story (Writing, Originality, Character Development, and Plot Development)

Obviously you are trying to come up with a unique story that is told in a compelling fashion.  The tricky part is a good story needs conflict, interesting characters, witty dialogue, and an intriguing plot all wrapped up in twenty pages or less.  I don't think any one thing is more important than any other.  It all goes together.

Finally, don't forget your story must fall into your assigned genre and the plot should revolve around the subject.

Chris

p.s.  If I remember correctly, last year the logline was worth 25% of your total score.
