RomCom/Putting ice in a drink/Public


For the first time in eternity, Fate was failing.

Fate thought they had it in the public park, when they gave Susan's dog the idea to break free of it's leash and race across the field to Dwayne. The meeting was filled with laughs and good conversation, and ended with Dwayne scrawling his numbers on a scrap of paper. Fate considered it a job well done, but then sudden storm clouds let loose, soaking Susan and erasing the digits.

They next met in the bar, and Fate filled Dwayne's head with the number three. When he ordered his drink and watched the bartender place three ice cubes in it, he joked that it must be his lucky day. Fate smirked, and ensured that Dwayne turned left just as the door opened and Susan walked in, but then the earth began to shake and they missed each other in the chaos.

Many other attempts had been made, yet each time, Fate seemed in a battle with Mother Nature. It didn't make sense, their names were in The Ledger! Snarling in frustration, Fate looked down at the star-crossed lover's, at a loss for what to try next.

Susan dialed a number, looking to make a doctor appointment, but mis-dialed the final number. Dwayne's phone began to ring. Fate looked on, incredulous, as Random Chance got things back on track.

"Oh, for the love of-"

How delightfully clever! I enjoyed this so much. I found myself eager to see how each setup would get demolished. Fun twist at the end. Nice work. Good luck with the judges!
