The heat 22 genre: horror
  subject: a television pilot
  character: a bulldozer operator

Does that mean our story has be a pilot screenplay/story?
It is confusing, please help!

I think it means that you need to center your story around a television plot, say on the set of a TV show while doing a reading of the screenplay.

I am pretty sure the answer there is No. The TV pilot is the subject - so it could be about the filming of the tv pilot (the actors, the director, the audience) or a writer writing a tv pilot, or about a reality tv show, or complications due to the filming of a TV pilot (MC's location loses electrical power, traffic is stalled to allow filming making someone late, etc.)

From the email:

The assigned subject must be integral to the plot of your story.  If the assigned subject barely makes an appearance and isn't relevant to the story, then it will most likely be disqualified.

The assigned character must a relevant character used in the story, but does not have to be the main character.  Similar to the subject, if the character barely makes an appearance and isn't relevant to the story then you will run the risk of being disqualified.  Best of luck to everyone, have fun and write some great stories!

Be as creative as you can in interpreting your subject -- but make sure it's integral… It could even be a group of friends watching a TV pilot together… however you want to bring it into the story, as long as it plays an important role.

It could also be about someone just *watching* a TV pilot, as long as it's central to the story.  Maybe your character has been waiting for weeks for this new show to air, and when it does . . . .
