I feel silly asking this.

I have reread the rules and FAQ

Maybe because im tired

NYC Midnight Scary Story Challenge

How many rounds and when?

Is it elimination?

still unclear on how it operates.

I will simply just write and whatever happens happens

is there such thing as too scary? too much horror?

I had not looked yet but found the info about rounds and dates on page 3 of the official rules. Top 10 in each group move on to the next round on Jan 9. Final round starts on Feb. 27.

As for your question about too scary or too much horror, I think that as long as the scariness/horror fits for the story, go for it. If the rest of the story suffers because you expend most of your word count bring horrifying just to be horrifying without a plot or character development, you may not do as well. There should be a beta reader sign up post coming out today or tomorrow, if you want to get another set of eyes on your story for feedback before submitting.
