I am having the opposite problem, I need to find more words and cute things to have happen. Stuck at 1100 words.

Well, I think I finally have an idea that will work. And the farrier cancelled and we've got a snow advisory tomorrow, so barring unexpected incidents, I can start.

Ghost stories can absolutely be horror -- you just have to make sure the ghost is important enough! |

Help, I just reached 1,000 words and I realized that my mystery is turning into a magical realism drama with horror undercurrents.

oh yeah, i got that covered. couple different ghosts actually. a few good ghosts. a bad ghost or three. actually the bad ghosts aren't even bad...kinda more vengeful? ugh i'm actually really excited about how it's going. that's a bad omen...time for NYCM to rip my heart out again i suppose. actually it's time for bed. 450 actual words done. 150 shy of my goal, but i fleshed out some other stuff so it's all good. good luck fellow writers.

do you have a fun/compelling sleuth yet? i haven't written a mystery before, but i think if i were in your shoes, the first thing i'd do is create a sleuth worth reading about then assume everything else will sort itself out...

I've got a sleuth who I think is very compelling. I've already introduced him during the first scene. My current problem is how to execute the crime/mystery portion of things. I've already introduced little bits of it/foreshadowing into the story - currently on scene 3 - but I know that his discovery of the crime is going to have to come soon for me to be able to complete the whole arc of him solving the crime within 2500 words. I guess maybe I should just throw the word count out the window for now and just get the story out and worry about edits later. |

I’ve written four words.
Once upon a time. And I don’t like them. I have the idea mostly figured out, I’m just need one last piece to click and then I’ll be good to go.

What i did was found some Roman deities that were vaguely similar to my characters and loaded down on the Roman imagery. One of my prompts really fit in well with that so it worked out.
