Ha ha, thank you! (Tbh it's highly possible I'm technically defining it wrong, so...with 1 hr 39 mins to go, my story is what it is!)

Ha ha, thank you, I was just scared having heard from a couple of people who were disqualified on technical not-hitting-the-brief stuff!

Tbh, most SFF readers can't even accurately identify MR vs contemporary fantasy vs low fantasy because the genre lines themselves depend on who you ask (esp their feelings about the Marquezian nature of MR). Don't sweat it. It's all fantasy. Good words and good luck! :)

I would say yes and very confidently. There have been a number of magical realism stories in FT/F over the years that have done very well. Also, my own story for R1 was magical realism and took 1st in my group.

Hi, the answer to the question 'will x be okay for this genre' is almost always 'yes', in my experience. Provided the magical elements of your magical realism are prominent enough, I'd expect you to be okay. For another opinion, you could always show your story to a couple of beta readers - there's a forum in the Creative Writing Forum with a link to the list.

Urgent query! Does anyone know if magical realism would be acceptable for the genre 'fairy tale/fantasy'? I have an exciting idea for MR but need to adapt v quickly if that's not going to be permissible. Any advice much appreciated!
