suspense is a key element of both horror and thriller so I wouldn't worry too much about crossing genres as long as your story is suspenseful.

From my experience NYCMidnight judges don't act as genre nazi's. If your drama turns into a dramedy thats fine, as long as its not an outright comedy. A thirller that is heavy on the suspense is fine as long as it maintains at least the rudimentary elements of a thriller.

Me I have horror, but am playing pretty loose with the genre. There are horrific things in my manuscript, but I underplay them.

Not all who wander are lost, not all who wonder without wisdom.

Horror... suspense... I'm so jealous Cry

I made a breakthrough today though. I finally have an idea... and some words!

"Once upon a time..."

That is all.

I'm about 700 words deep.  Looking at some of you on here, I think I need to get my act together!

Anyone else from heat 2 here?  Drama/Domestic abuse is a bit serious for my liking.

Oh my gosh, I would hate to have to write 2500 words on Drama/Domestic Abuse. I am feeling your pain, Scott, but you've made my day. Until I read that I was wondering if I should have entered - now I'm glad I didn't.

Good luck.

Well I've only written 500 words but that's cool, so stop panicking Scott. Plenty of time...Doesn't HAVE to be 2,500 words, and mine for sure will be nowhere NEAR that. 2,500 is the MAX not the requirement.

Good luck all you guys.

If it makes anyone feel any better (or worse haha) I've written 1200 words since my last post Thumbs Up

I can't believe I'm writing a frickin' fairy tale!

I hated it at first but now it's actually kinda fun.

Which is more than can be said for drama/domestic abuse. Bad luck, Scott, but I'm sure you'll nail it.

Sorry, let me make myself clear, I am certain that you will do a wonderful job with this genre/topic Scott, making your story both insightful and interesting unlike I would be able to do. I would like to offer you every encouragement to get r done, and I cannot wait to read the prose you come up with.

Don't worry, I know you were being supportive!   Thanks Smile

I've blitzed it tonight and I've broken through the 1000 word barrier.  Onwards and upwards!
