3) Stay at least 500 yards from any grade schools. Read in my court appointed restraining order that it will help me be more creative.

4) Reread all my sweet valley high novels. (Yes i said novels) Those books inspire me more than any other form of art.

Yeah, that's right my long dry spell is due to my dedication to the creative process.

Yeah, that's the ticket.

That's funny Johnny, cause whenever I want to get a feeling for structure I read Hunter Thompson.

That's most likely my plan, read a bunch of Thompson and Douglas Adams to kick start my brain into remembering what beautiful, flowing language sounds like.

Good call on Hemmingway.  I love his short stories.

Another writer with a couple books of short stories I like a lot is, Kurt Vonnegut (he is actually my favorite writer).

Don't forget Hemingway. Lots of people dying. Usually in the rain.

Hunter S. Thompson used to transcribe Hemingway's stories to try to get some insight into the way he strung his words together. Granted, Hunter was not a model of sanity, but that's still an impressive legacy.

Anyone else decide to work on preparing for the contest? I've been trying to formulate a plan to help get me back in the groove of the form. THis is what I've pulled so far:

1.) Read some Raymond Carver
2.) Read some Thom Jones
3.) Read Aristotle's "Poetics"
4.) Revisit some old stories and do some basic editing.
5.) Maybe get some of a basic short story on paper.

Maybe 5 bullets seems like a lot, but overall, I think it's doable. There is time before the competition, right?

No reason to not keep busy.

Oh. I should also upload a new avatar to the server. I'm sick of the generic ones.
