Joining in for the first time. I haven't written a short story in years so this should be interesting (in the good way, hopefully!) Happy writing, everyone. Smile

I'm giving it a go, too. I did this challenge once before and was overwhelmed with intimidation, as narrative prose is not my comfort zone. I guess I won't grow and learn unless I jump in head first and try.

Are there beta readers in the short story challenges? I'll probably need one... but I'm certainly not going to volunteer to be one.

I waited until today to register because I wasn't sure how wonky my vision would be after cataract surgery. Vision is improved already, so I'm good to go!Tongue

Welcome to everyone who is new! In 2018 I joined the NYCM Flash Fiction contest and wrote the first short story I have EVER written that wasn't a school assignment. It was scary but the judges gave both positive comments and critiques that were really helpful. I've learned so much from this experience and hope you have a great time! It's great that many of you new writers are already here on the forum. After I entered, it took me many months to work up the courage to post my work here. And when I did, I found the community to be incredibly welcoming and supportive. There are always a few people with strong opinions, but it is a generally wonderful place. There will be a beta swap list for people who are seeking feedback before submitting their entries, so think about participating to get a fresh set of eyes on your work. Jump in, have fun, ask questions, and be willing to learn and grow. Welcome!
