I tried to say no to the NYCM 2020 Short Story competition. I really did. I’m supposed to be working on my novel and a screenplay. But who am I kidding? I would have spent the time on the forums checking out the prompts and wishing I had joined instead of working on my WIP. So I will see you all Friday!
Who else will be here? -Alex

I am in! My 2 hour editing every morning can certainly survive a slow down of a week.

Disappointed to have to miss this one but I'll be back when life (and writing life) is less intense! Have fun one and all!

I'm in, though after my round 2 let down in micro, not feeling super motivated, tbh.
I'm just finding myself torn between writing what I want, and then second guessing if what I write is relatable/understandable to the judges here. And should I change how I write? Is my voice not clear enough to bring what I see clearly to the page? I'm hoping the bigger word count will help me. And I'm REALLY hoping my prompts inspire me to get out of this funk. So I'll be here, for sure. I just feel a bit like Eeyore without my tail right now.

I'm in! My first NYC was SSC exactly a year ago and what a transformative year it's been. After micro, 2,500 words will seem like a novel - bring on plot, character development, google research on weird things like chinese burial customs, dates of natural disaters and, my all time favourite, the best poisons. :-D

I have always scored better with the judges when I have written what I want instead of what I think they want. Good luck!! -Alex

After a couple of years away from SSC, I decided to hop back in! Hopefully I can shake off the competition cobwebs and remember how to properly write a short story.
