Dang, just reread through what I submitted and noticed a line of dialogue got stuck in an action line. Must have happened when I was reweaving trying to make the beginning and end meet.
NOBODY CAUGHT IT!
I haven't used the Beta readers, but I did send it to 4 friends, some of who are screenwriters and nobody saw it. I would have had four hours to correct it, if I had caught it. Unhappy
It still reads fine and doesn't trip you up...but it is a technical error.
How bad is that going to ding me?
In five pages there isn't room for too many mistakes and I was fairly happy with how it came out.

Sigh.

oh, well... maybe they will get caught up in the twist and miss it as well. Ermm

Depends on the error, I think. I got read the riot act by a judge for using the wrong “your” (for the first time in my LIFE - I had rephrased the line but didn’t proofread it closely enough), but they’ve been more forgiving on screenwriting structure stuff.

The average penalty for dialog nested in action is 6.38 points, modified by the standard formula depending on whether or not the action spin was positive or negative.  The number of prepositions in the nested dialog has the standard Log-e modification formula as well.  I'm not sure if the vowel/consonant balance equation is still used for these contests.

Happy to beta swap with you in the future, or jump on the spreadsheet for the next round. I had left off a time stamp on one of my scenes and a beta reader caught it! Sure, we all want to do well, but this is a great community and we want to support and help each other out also. Good luck! Oh and in flash fiction, my friend had a typo in her story and still won 1st place in her heat for that round.

Good luck,

Ditto what northernwriter (Alex) said... I'll give your next effort(s) at least a proofreading perusal, if not the full beta treatment... (whatever that is... it sounded good, lol).

I had the wrong "your" in the very last line of dialogue this round and the very first thing every one of my betas said in comments was to point that out to me in CAP LETTERS. Hahahahaha. Bless my betas.

I think Random has the penalty formula right... and FYI, the vowel/consonant balance equation is still in effect.
Confused

Pithy sayings are for the apt. For a longer message, you need a condo.

I also found out that an article went missing in a line of dialogue, and had an unintended British “jewellery” in an otherwise American English piece... I’m new here so I don’t know how that will affect my score but I’ll report back if it does. Would love to try a beta reader another time!

(The post editor is flagging “jewellery” as I type LOL)

I hope so. Fingers crossed. Thanks!
