Short Story is over for now; it's time to stop thinking 'how does it feel' and concentrate on 'what does it look like'. After the last three days that's going to take work. I'm almost glad I have one set of taxes left to get my mind out of writing for a couple days. Final Draft rather than Word. It's the same thing, but all so different.

Back to more confident ground for me. The weird thing is I felt totally the opposite a couple of years ago. Prose was what I knew, while screenplay was alien, impenetrable, daunting.
Now I find comfort and confidence in Screenplay's structures and rules, while free prose feels intimidatingly unchained.

And I'm still in the "give me prose or give me an ulcer" stage, where I actually write screenplays in prose and adapt them (with varying degrees of success). I need to re-examine my attitude toward those limitations and learn to embrace them.

Hey, short stories are almost like treatments, right?
Actually, given the number of my own short stories I have adapted into screenplays...

I do exactly the opposite! I use screenplay to generate ideas that become prose later...

I’m glad to go from prose to screenplay and not the other way around. I write the worst description in prose after being in a screenplay mindset.

After doing Screenwriting Challenge and Short Screenplay last year, I really struggled to get back to prose. To the point where I had to write my Round 1 Short Story as a stage play
Like Tim I think I prefer the structure and rules of screenwriting, it actually takes a lot of agonising decisions out of your hands (past tense vs. present tense, 1st person or 3rd person etc).

Used to do that too. Prose just takes too damn long.

I can't remember how I write anymore.
Last set in feedback on a short horror included the words 'There is a true desire for it all to end '...and that was in what the judges liked! |
