This is my second time submitting an animation, and if I recall correctly from my last one, there was some confusion by the judges as to my intention (despite the main character being described as a lumbering Rottweiler with a cigar in its mouth...)
My opening scene is humans, but my intention is that they are cartoon humans. Looking over other animation scripts, I don't recall that it is ever 'called out'. But as you're reading, I can see where the style might lend itself to a 'wait, huh? moment'. Any thoughts?

Tricky! I’ve never done animation personally, but if I were you I’d find a way to sneak it into the log line. Something like “[character] goes on an animated adventure…” that way readers know right from the get go. That might not work for you, but that was my first thought! Best of luck!

Honestly, I think a simple note at the start of the script stating that its an animated adventure would do the trick.

From more investigation, I found one script that stated below the title that it was an 'Animated Short', so I think I'll go with that?

It's definitely worth stating. In my first screenplay, my main character was the grim reaper and there were dragons and baby phoenix chicks so I thought that would be obvious but technically it *could* have been done with CGI on real streets/forests etc. I should have stated that it was animation. It would have given the judges a better picture in their heads as they read it. Look forward to reading it! Best of luck. |
