I am anxious too. I’ve built it up in my head for so long now and imagined the different scenarios. It is so hard not to get my hopes up, but I am reminding myself that I should just be proud for making it this far. I should be proud for just doing the work.

And while it isn’t about the money winning anywhere in the top 3 will allow me the time to continue focusing on my writing—submitting short stories, finishing the novel.

This is my first finals after discovering NYCM in January last year and entering them all. Apprehensive, but generally proud of the story I submitted! Feel proud to just have got this far.

Congratulations to the winners and to everyone! Truly incredible stories! I’m definitely going to be spending time in the forum to read any that have been posted. This was my first NYC experience and first writing competition experience, so I’m grateful I got so far. The feedback has been valuable, so looking forward to that later today.

Absolutely gobsmacked to have won it all! Well done everyone for making it to the finals, regardless of your result. Placing in the top 88 of 3400 people is a huge feat!

Third! I can't believe it!!! This was only my second NYC Midnight competition, and I hadn't written any new fiction in ten years before last May. I'm floored and excited and so proud.
